Sir, Excellent !
You would think that it would be a priority to take steps to avoid this kind of confusion when manufacturing firearms.
Good history of 22 cal
Now a child can get gender reassignment surgery but can’t buy ammo thanks to the crooks in DC
English? Boool sheeeeet.
I’ve got an old 1930’s Winchester 22 single shot bolt action rifle that takes the short to the long rifle cartridges.
Super helpful video, thanks!
You forgot the Winchester 22 Auto for the 1903 model only
Terrific info. Thanks for explaining all this!
A few points, 1. You definitely can use 22 short long and long rifle cartridges in semi autos, you just have to change the recoil spring, or cycle the bolt manually, I even use the calibra loads in my Marlin papoose.
2. 22 WMR shoots slower out of a 6" pistol bbl than a CCI Stinger or a good high velocity 22LR due to the fact that it was developed as a rifle cartridge and has slower burning powder that does not get burnt in a pistol bbl. I reamed out a S&W 617 cylinder back before you could buy a 22 WMR in any pistol to try it and chronographed both. Really bummed me out to do all that work for nothing.
I prefer to pronounce “Flobert” as though it rhymes with “Robert” because it’s funnier that way.
There are bolt guns and other actions that can fire any of the 3 modern 22’s
SURE, TWENTY TWO CAN TAKE , WHAT SOMETIMES A FULL CLIP TO OH REDUCE THREAT FACTORS .
I FOUND THAT A NICE THICK GEL PASTE WITH JABANERO OR PEPPER SPRAY NICELY CAREFULLY PACKED GOOD AND TIGHT IN A TWENTY TWO HOLLOW POINT MAKES A STATEMENT LISTENED TO IN REDUCE YOUR THREAT NOW TYPE PALABRATION POTENTIALLY DEADLY FORCE CONTACT TYPE.
My brother has a .22 auto-mag. I know the cartridges are different than .22 long-rifle but I’m not sure exactly what the difference is.
You forgot about single shot bolt actions sir 🙂
Bolt action Cooeys used the short, long , and long rifle.
Wish I found this video a month ago i bought standard .22lr ammo for my m&p22
This was a great video
the flobert is 6mm ,the chamber is a little larger diameter then a 22
I’ve recently had to figure this out with my .22
1) The smallest Cartridge shown was known here as a
presumably because in the beginning they WERE indeed Percussion Caps with a Bullet on them, and before WW-1 they were common at Fairground Shooting Galleries.
2) One of the biggest problem with people shooting .22 Longs, or .22 Shorts, or .22 Bulleted Caps, through Weapons chambered for .22 Long Rifle…; is that the shorter Cases force the Projectiles to
"jump the Gap" before encountering the Lands & Grooves of the Rifling ; and thus the particular alignment of the Projectile’s Long Axis is randomised by a few degrees with respect to the Barrel’s Axis – thus badly compromising accuracy.
However the worst & most insidious problem is that a Case which is shorter than the Chamber results in the hot corrosive Propellant Gasses impinging on the exposed smooth interior of the Chamber…, and thus the Chamber tends to become first pitted and then corroded ; and therefore after some time using the wrong (but cheaper) Ammunition, when the Weapon is fed with the correct Ammunition – then on firing the Case expands into the rough Pitted & Corroded Chamber, and becomes stuck, refusing to eject & neccessitatingba visit to the Gunsmith.
The Chamber then has to be filled with Silver-Solder, and rebored ; to rectify the Pitts.
Such is life,
Have a good one…
I have an old Eastern Auto Revelation model 105 bolt action that is chambered for short, long, and long rifle. It’s great for plinking. You just buy whatever is cheapest and have a good time.
Nice job boss…..
Used to buy a 550rd brick for $8.96 was so upset when price jumped to $10.99 haven’t even seen a brick in the store since before obummer took iffice
I’m 50 years old and have always thought .22L and .22LR were the same. Quite embarrassed, but now I know. Thank you!
Louis Nicolas flobert … The real inventor of this type of cartridge …
I have a Remington 552, 22 caliber, autoloader, and I can use short, long and long rifle ammo.
this was an incredible view; so informative and well presented; thank you Sir
I learned a lot, this was great!
That was a gap in my .22 ammo knowledge that just got filled. Thanks for the fine presentation.
Great video!!! Love this guy!!👍👍👍
WADaBouT tHe 22BMg!
I shot .22 bb, .22 shorts and .22 lr in my father’s ivory Johnson bolt action rifle it have no magazine but with kid fingers we go it to chamber but I’m older I don’t think I could get a .22 bb in it day with my adult fingers. Now I don’t like the .22bb do it bounce back risk
clear and good explaination, thank you
I know this guy isn’t young but he also doesn’t look old.
Actually, you should have explained that the standard .22s are ‘heel-loaded’ bullets, whilst the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire are crimped, like a centerfire cartridge. Many obsolete rimfire cartridges were heel loaded, as were some centerfire rounds that were invented in blackpowder days, such as the .32 Short & Long Colt.
That said, I have met a joker who showed me his .22 SA revolver. It was a .22 WMR, but he, not understanding guns, had been firing long rifles from it. The chambers were pretty dirty and possibly had been gas cut. I didn’t try cleaning it. I just told him he was using the wrong ammo.
We won’t get into the fact that the Flobert you had on the end was a CB (conical bullet) cap, not a BB (bulleted breech) cap.
Weres the 22hornet in ur speech bud
I found the same cb cap in my shop from Mexico. I shot a few through my single shot long barrel and after about 6 of them,, one got stuck. Be careful. I got it out and threw them away.
thanks to allen. most firearms experts just throw out terms and technology, this guy actually tells it to a normal dude like me in a way i understand, thank you.
I’ve used 22 BB’s before. they are entertaining cartridges.
Yep! County fair rifles were fun times. It’s too bad they aren’t still around today. (I also miss the rifle classes in school.)
In many ways I feel our society has lost it’s way, now we have generals in the military trying to understand ‘white rage’. .. makes no sense.
My daughter’s and I have a few s&p 15-22’s for plinking and target flawless semi rifles
They’re called CB caps not BB caps!!! With all due respect sir you gotta get the name right 1st before you inform people on what the cartridge is and what the cartridge does!
I own a 1857 6mm Flobert pistol. State of the art back in the day…
Very good. Excellent review of the 22 ammo.
I have Winchester 190 semi auto that cycles lr, long, and short. It has all three calibers listed on the barrel.
Thank you sir! You explained very clearly this caliber.
Lol!I remember the old shooting galleries! Only a few words to get you on memory lane.fun times they where.
.22 isn’t a cartridge, it’s a calibre. .22 LR is a cartridge.
