HR 949…..tackle box gun….had 2 of them, they rattled apart….IMHO they’re all a POS! Can’t get parts for ’em either, not even from Brownells. Try to get a rear sight. That’ll be the first piece you’ll lose every time. 90 bucks? You got cheated! They were 110 bucks new! You should have got it for 40 bucks…….

In 1968 I bought one of those 949s for $57 dollars brand new and it was a very good shooting gun in 72 I traded it in on a Ruger single six and they gave me $30 trade in on it.The Ruger I still have and its a much better gun, I’m looking for another 949 out of old time sake.

  7. Isaiah Tafoya on March 2, 2023 at 2:37 am

I love your show your the best

  15. Kerry David Sadler on March 2, 2023 at 2:48 am

I have bought several handguns at my local pawn shop , you can really find some gems. That H/R looks like a great one, just because a gun has some wear or Bluing is faded doesn’t mean the gun isn’t worth buying.

  16. Steven Miller on March 2, 2023 at 2:50 am

That Price! I have an H&R "Sportsman" a 9 shot top break revolver, I bought, used, years ago. It is really well made and accurate. Compare the value of your pistol to the current crap, er crop of "cheap" revolvers.. ie the Heritage Rough Rider or Ruger Wrangler.

  17. colt45 Peacemaker on March 2, 2023 at 2:53 am

    I have an H&R M1 Garand…
That revolver is what I’m into.
    Diamondback Sidekick is fun.

  18. Mike of many Mikes on March 2, 2023 at 2:53 am

funny how the notification for this video just came for me, 3 days later.

  19. Gregory Smith on March 2, 2023 at 2:53 am

I bought a 7 1/2 in barrel H&R 949 from a friend in 1980, pawned it in 1984 being short monetary funds for a celebratory weekend with my then fiancé. Found another one in 1988. From 1995 till last month it was my Pops last ditch go to PDW when he transitioned to a assisted living facility, which doesn’t allow firearms.
Shot last week; she still holds POA/POI at 20 yards. Good to have it back…

  20. Danny Smith on March 2, 2023 at 2:55 am

    Nice 22 H&R!

  21. Nomadic Observer on March 2, 2023 at 2:58 am

I just looked at these on Gunbroker. Cheapest one was $299.69.

  22. Ahri Fox on March 2, 2023 at 2:58 am

I’m sure you have your own methods already, but for rust spots like that what I do is take a scotch-brite pad to remove the rust, and follow it up with a quick cold bluing. Worked like a charm for me.

  23. Nathan Duckeorth on March 2, 2023 at 2:58 am

Exactly wt I sed when you had the misfire,Winchester Ammo lol, Remington ammo not much better!!! I try to purchase federal!!! Or CCI

  24. logsdotr on March 2, 2023 at 3:01 am

Wow. That was a good deal! Congrats.

  25. Wayne Longmire on March 2, 2023 at 3:01 am

Just in case … check out your 949’s main spring … I was getting a lot of light strikes with my 949 and discovered it has nylon head main spring that broke in two (common issue easily fixed). I have ordered an all steel main spring. A couple of you tubers have videos on H&R 949 main spring replacement.

  26. Thomas DeArment on March 2, 2023 at 3:02 am

Winchester Ammo I know my HP22 don’t like em much

  27. LA_Old_Salt on March 2, 2023 at 3:03 am

    Sweet find Mixup.

  28. Jason Arringotn on March 2, 2023 at 3:04 am

Now that is a deal, good buy.

  29. Texas Elvis on March 2, 2023 at 3:07 am

My stepdad handed down an old H&R 9 shot that he bought from Sears in 1940. Still works perfectly. Has a little rust, but nothing 82 years old doesn’t have a little.

  30. Montana Hoser on March 2, 2023 at 3:08 am

Just picked up one of these myself from the Bargain Bin. So dumb question – how long does foam last in the desert sun without rain to wash it away?

  31. Derek Neumann on March 2, 2023 at 3:08 am

I recently scored a1990s H&R single shot 12 gauge, case hardened receiver, New In Box, Un-fired shotgun for $125 at a pawn shop because my kids saw a Dairy Queen and we had to pull over. Thanks, girls!!

  32. Anthony Garcia on March 2, 2023 at 3:08 am

    Awesome H &R.👍

  33. Michael Merrick on March 2, 2023 at 3:09 am

  36. arthur chadwell on March 2, 2023 at 3:10 am

    I picked up a 949 "The Fourty-niner" several years ago. Fantastic little.22!

  37. Felix Korczak on March 2, 2023 at 3:10 am

I bought a model 949 when I was 18years old in 1966. It was brand new on sale for 30 bucks. There was no paper work, no ID shown, I gave the man my money and he gave me the revolver, no questions asked. We were not shooting each other in the streets in those days. Apparently, guns were not the problem. I found my model 949 after watching your video, it hasn’t seen daylight in years but I carried it everywhere and had a ton of fun with it as a young man, now I will ressurect it but I doubt I will be as good with it as you are with yours. Thank you for that very entertaining video. Felix Korczak

  38. Dave K on March 2, 2023 at 3:10 am

What a great find, Mixup! That revolver will serve you well for decades to come. I thoroughly enjoyed this video, especially knowing that you practically stole this gem, with that super cool old holster!

  39. theguyinmaine on March 2, 2023 at 3:15 am

got a really nice 999 H&R Sportsman 22 LR. has the fluted barrel, 9 shot top break. They still make speed loaders for it.

  40. Randog777 on March 2, 2023 at 3:20 am

They’re great till they go out of time, and they will, especially the 9 shots.

  41. armed farm on March 2, 2023 at 3:24 am

Nice, I always look for one in the DA 9 shot variety but can never get er done! Winchester ammo used to be something
you wanted to run in yer guns. Not anymore, it’s the like the crap is made in a third world country………..

  42. Colmack on March 2, 2023 at 3:24 am

I was looking at that one too, why I didn’t get it I don’t know.

  43. Darren Haywood on March 2, 2023 at 3:24 am

Makes me sick I cant have any of the fun. Wish I had legit pawn shops like you have.

  44. Walks Fletcher on March 2, 2023 at 3:26 am

    I paid $50 for a 4" M929 in 1988, you got a great deal for a good gun.

  45. Michael Scafe on March 2, 2023 at 3:26 am

I picked up a high standard double nine that wouldn’t shoot well. Traded it off for a six shot version h&r. Love the beat up h&r. Shoots great, and is all steel unlike the double nine and most economy 22 revolvers made today. Also didn’t know the h&r was double action until I got it home. Lol… Fun revolver

  46. RWD Channel on March 2, 2023 at 3:27 am

That does remind me somewhat of the Ruger Wrangler. I like the Ruger wrangler with the birdshead grip. You got a great deal for a double action revolver for under $100.

  47. Charles Miller on March 2, 2023 at 3:28 am

Wow that was the deal of the year

  48. Larry Barber on March 2, 2023 at 3:28 am

Whenever I need a break from a dreary, rainy, Deep South day. I dial up Mixup and enjoy some Desert beauty with good Ole’ everyman firearms fun.

  49. E on March 2, 2023 at 3:28 am

Yessir, that’s a great find…better yet with the holster! I watched this video the other week, but didn’t leave a comment. (was on a short break at work)
***just had an incident tonight that pushed me to go ahead and get my CCW as I’ve been intending…but still haven’t.

  50. Michael Walton on March 2, 2023 at 3:28 am

I have the same gun, inherited from my father. It might be a little older than the one reviewed, the firing pin is on the hammer.
