Artifacts – Heavy Ammunition
Artifacts are a now-defunct hip hop duo consisting of El Da Sensei and Tame One. They hail from Newark, New Jersey and made underground music that paid homage to the four elements of hip hop. The Artifacts’ most popular single “Wrong Side of Da Tracks” paid special homage to graffiti art, as they were graffiti artists themselves.
They released their first album, Between a Rock and a Hard Place on October 27, 1994. Well received by underground hip hop audiences, it featured intelligent lyrics, as well as b-boy and graffiti themes. The album’s hard-hitting, funky beats were produced by Buckwild (from the DITC crew) and T-Ray (from the Soul Assassins crew). The Artifacts’ second album, That’s Them was released on April 15, 1997. It featured similar material, but it did not receive as much recognition as their debut effort. The Artifacts split soon after the release of this second album.
Tame One and El Da Sensei have both continued to release music as solo artists. In 2003, Tame One joined the Weathermen, an underground rap group including Cage Kennylz, Camu Tao, Aesop Rock, and El-P. Soon after joining the Weathermen, Tame One and Cage released the album Waterworld under the name Leak Bros. True to their name, the duo held the theme of PCP consumption central to their work. In 2009, Tame ONe collaborated with another member of the Definitive Jux label, releasing the album Parallel Uni-Verses with Del the Funky Homosapien. El Da Sensei has released a number of solo albums and collaborated with the Polish rap group The Returners in 2008.

@METTI1986LA your a hater bruah. there is always something to appreciate in all types of music. even country…
@METTI1986LA Well, be open minded. I love boom bap with banging drums (like this song right here and Premo’s 90s stuff) as much as I love smooth funky grooves like most g-funk and southern stuff.
Let’s compare Onyx "Slam" to Compton’s Most Wanted "Late Night Hype". One is completely hype and makes you wanna jump, the latter is smoothed out and makes you wanna chill out after a party with a fly broad. I love them both equally.
Respect to all the real hip-hop heads. To bad the states don’t show love to our veterans like y’all cats overseas do!
I remember when I bought this I was mildly disappointed. But now listening back to this is one of the best hiphop albums of that time period. This is BANGIN

Buckwild gets nowhere near enough props as other ditc beat makers and engineers …shouldn’t have to mention Black Rob for someone to recognize. No disrespect to Black Rob
