Why get a 243 when you get a 25-06? The best all-round centrefire for Australia. If you think the ammo is too expensive, you are in the wrong sport.

  2. Kawashima Arisaka on January 21, 2023 at 1:21 am

I have a Kahles made in Austria and a Bushnell made in “North Korea”, price differ in 6 times and they do differ in 6 times on quality of every aspect.

You said you can’t see the point of 30-06 over 308?
Well around here, 30-06 ammo is well cheaper than 308.

  7. Allen wrench on January 21, 2023 at 1:28 am

.243 centerfire cartridges cost twice what similar quality .223 ammo costs…………

  8. bob d on January 21, 2023 at 1:29 am

This was extremely helpful, i was getting so confused with all these calibers. Thanks

  9. Adam O on January 21, 2023 at 1:30 am

Lever action marlin 30.30 is my first centrefire, was a 30yr old barely fired heirloom handed (transfed) to me. Love it. But definatly looking for a .223 to keep to rounds down in marlin

  11. Just Onlyme on January 21, 2023 at 1:33 am

I can’t choose the correct one, the correct one was banned by corrupt politicians

  12. John Wilmott on January 21, 2023 at 1:35 am

You’re spot on, have a cz 527 .223 1/9 twist, if you ever get a chance would love to see you review one.

  21. Phillip Johnson on January 21, 2023 at 1:45 am

    My take…
Punching holes in paper, I go on the cheap.
Potentially putting game on the table, I do not cheap out.
When shooting or hunting price is relative, in my book.

  22. Buck Rodgers on January 21, 2023 at 1:46 am

    Hi mate
As a beginner and first time rifle buyer I found this video really informative.
I settled on a Tikka 223 stainless left hand.
I do wish that in this beginners video you had stated what "small game" and "larger game" is.
I got my 223 for wild dogs, however I dont consider a dog a small animal.
The guy at my local shop said a 223 will take dogs, goats, some pigs and small to medium deer, all out to about 150 yards.
Would be interested in your thoughts on this advise, as a beginner, all I have to go on is the advise of others.
    Many thanks

Why is everyone promoting the 6.5 creedmoor. The 6.5X5 is still better, just not promoted by america because it’s a metric cartridge and not designed in the usa. Only 3 rifles you need CZ452 in 22lr, 527 in .223 and Sako 85 in 6.5X55. Dont even need the middle one, two rifles are fine. you can shoot 100gr from 6.5 and undercharge it giving you 20+ rounds per case, or go 140gr and run it on the edge for range and big game. People Don’t realise you can have a larger cartridge rifle and it becomes cheaper to shoot than a small cartridge rifle if you run it at lower pressures. Re-loading is easy and saves you money.

Hi ozzie what do you think about the ruger American 223 package.

Can you own a file in Australia if you have a crim record from 10yrs ago.

  32. Josh Burke on January 21, 2023 at 1:56 am

Tbh I love 7mm08 out of my Tikka T3. With 140gr projectiles, it’s like a .308 but better as in drops less and recoil is just like a .223.

  33. Russ on January 21, 2023 at 1:56 am

    Remington ?

  34. Dan G on January 21, 2023 at 1:58 am

Great video, but I think one important factor was glossed over here.

If you’re buying a higher end rifle, you’re not simply paying for a more aestheticly pleasing finish and a smoother bolt. What you’re really paying for is lower variability in accuracy between rifles of the same make/brand. Sure, you may get lucky with a cheaper rifle and have it be an absolute gem, but there’s an even greater chance that it will be a dog that won’t print a decent group under any conditions, with any ammo.By paying a little, or a lot, more for the rifle, you’re shortening the odds of you landing a shooter.

  35. Devin B on January 21, 2023 at 2:01 am

If you want to hunt basically anything in Australia ( except buffs maybe ), get a 12 gauge, .22, .223 and .30-06 or something similar. All in tikka lol except a browning shotgun

  36. Nicholas Wirth on January 21, 2023 at 2:01 am

  41. james dickson on January 21, 2023 at 2:06 am

Very good my choice for pigs would be a helix straight pull in 30 06 and make my Owen shells and have an aim point scope

Bolt actions for soviet 7.62×39. Cheap enough for kangaroos and big enough deer.

  49. Phillip Johnson on January 21, 2023 at 2:17 am

It is too bad Nikon is getting out of the rifle scope business. I asked Nikon Rep if they were selling that portion of their business or just discontinuing it. I never received a clear answer but, it sounded like they were just discontinuing the rifle side of the their business which is kind of strange because it is a pretty successful line up of scopes — IMV!
