Belgian Gendarmerie FAL Parts Kits from FN America

Belgian Gendarmerie FAL Parts Kits from FN America

Someone digging through the warehouses an FN in Herstal found 400 FAL rifles turned in by the Belgian Gendarmerie when they upgraded to newer arms…and they decided to send them to the US as parts kits. So FN America has these 400 kits now, and they are selling them off via lottery (free entry for a chance to purchase a kit). This is done to prevent them all from being bought up by speculators to flip on GunBroker, and I am happy FN chose to do it…check out FN America’s web site for full details.

It has been a long time since actual Belgian military FAL kits were available here, and I think it’s pretty cool to get a shipment of Gendarmerie ones. The kits are complete less the upper receiver, barrel, muzzle device, gas piston, and magazine. The Gendarmerie used the same rifles as the Belgian Army – M1 and M2 pattern FALs (the M5 is a separate specialized rifle used by the Gendarmerie for launching tear gas, which we will cover later). These kits are from M2 pattern rifles, and have some cosmetic wear and little mechanical wear – they were carried a lot and fired rarely.

In the next few months I’ll be having this kit built into a complete rifle, and we’ll have a closer look at the original military pattern of the FAL…

Disclosure: FN America gave me the kit.

  5. RJ on February 28, 2023 at 2:40 am

i would pay good money to seee a bunch of coppers bayonet charging a suspect. usual lethal force rules apply, i’m talking armed nutter threatening the public or an individual, not someone who’s committed minor offences, but imagine some london road men mid knife fight coming face to face with ex squaddies with ptsd running at them screaming ‘EN GARDE’ holding a bayonetted fal .

  6. Shane Scurry on February 28, 2023 at 2:41 am

Anyone have an idea who he’s talking about with new barrels and upper receivers possibly being produced?

  7. Jack Jones on February 28, 2023 at 2:41 am

    Who sells locking shoulders?

  8. The Cable Guy GC on February 28, 2023 at 2:42 am

Interesting. I guess I’m a lucky winner then as I got an email from FN telling me I had won the right to buy one.

  9. ichimonjiguy on February 28, 2023 at 2:44 am

These FAL’s are the later production Type 3 variation. The correct receiver to build this parts kit is a Type 3 receiver.

  10. Om Sharma on February 28, 2023 at 2:44 am

    imagine converting it to full-auto

I just got my kit today and I am PUMPED to get this bad boy built

  15. nichevo1 on February 28, 2023 at 2:50 am

If they’re selling this as something that your audience should consider buying, and is incomplete, can you suggest a complimentary package if they are offering it, to complete the firearm? Or is it best/usual to acquire that from available parts here?

  16. Kyle Brown on February 28, 2023 at 2:51 am

I’m counting 12 parts in the kit, but Ian said that the assembly of the rifle could not be done with more than 10 foreign made parts.
Do some of the parts I counted combine and be counted as 1 part or are some of the parts made in the US?

  17. UTAH WASTELAND on February 28, 2023 at 2:51 am

Do a video where you tear gas yourself with an original Belgian M5.

  18. Duco Maritiem on February 28, 2023 at 2:54 am

The Gendarmerie got its name poinring out their historical function.. les "gens" (people) "d’armes" (with weapons). It’s French.

    MAC 2.0?

  20. gin on February 28, 2023 at 2:54 am

Such an iconic weapon, I am glad FN America has done it as a raffle. Enjoy yours for us who can’t.

  21. Rif Leman on February 28, 2023 at 2:57 am

Ian, respectfully, your kit is a type 3, not a type 1. All of these kits aren’t the same type. I have seen type 3 and type 2 so far.

  22. Brodinecubs1 on February 28, 2023 at 2:57 am

was anything ever announced regarding barrels and receivers? I just received my email and purchased 🙂

  23. Bart on February 28, 2023 at 2:58 am

In the Belgian navy we used these to shoot our lines across to the supplying ship (fe when refuelling at see) standard army rifle was FNC.

  24. G D on February 28, 2023 at 2:59 am

And the Belgian gun owners get nothing. As usual from FN… They ship it to the US or they melt it down. But God forbid to put it on the legal Belgian gun market!

  25. SpartanB88 on February 28, 2023 at 3:02 am

    Mine arrived today.

  26. ductileiron98 on February 28, 2023 at 3:02 am

Hope slippery Tim doesn’t get these kits from military arms channel. Hahaha

  27. itswift on February 28, 2023 at 3:03 am

I got one! Just ordered it. 😀

  28. edward hawkey on February 28, 2023 at 3:07 am

Hi Ian, i really become very envious when i see these types of videos when you guys get to be able to buy these kits. In our Socialist State of South Africa where we have to jump through hoops of fire just to own a LEGAL firearm, we just cannot have this. Saw in the comments below about the synthetic stock, we of course had them on our R1/FN rifles and now we would walk on fire to find a wooden original Belgian stock and foregrip. Thanks for your videos mate, they are phenomenal.

    No barrel, no care.

  30. BP1991X on February 28, 2023 at 3:11 am

I love the idea of a parts kit, but I hate that the rifles had to be destroyed.

  31. Dana Walkerley on February 28, 2023 at 3:12 am

Hey I just purchased one of the parts kits. Will you be doing a video on how you eventually put it together and a follow up on where you got the extra parts. I will be looking into DSA but if there is a better option then might go that way. Thanks

  32. n00bkill on February 28, 2023 at 3:13 am

It would be amazing if Ammochannel picked up one of these and did a rebuild.

  33. SpartanB88 on February 28, 2023 at 3:13 am

Is there no selector included? Yours seems to be missing

  34. Erik Crete on February 28, 2023 at 3:15 am

Not really a proper parts kit if the barrel, muzzle device, gas piston, and magazine are missing.

  35. Michael Robbins on February 28, 2023 at 3:17 am

Way back.. 1980’s. You could get a FAL or an SAR for less than a grand!

  36. MauldtheMan on February 28, 2023 at 3:21 am

Man, 922r sounds like a fix, like it’s just the ATF bullying people who choose to buy cheaper, imported disassembled guns over (potentially) more expensive, domestic assembled guns. "You can’t use foreign magazines because–well, you just can’t! Buy some from a domestic retailer for an inflated price, why don’t you, or we’ll [redacted] your dog!" It sounds like a fix because whether domestic or foreign, the part is the part and it still allows the gun to fire and function–but now there’s control about where the money goes, albeit a portion.

  37. pripjaty fighter on February 28, 2023 at 3:21 am

This is a sad and happy thing too. Sad, because it has to cut down, technically destroy a historical rifle, and the importation shows the European rifle market’s very sad status.
But on the other hand it’s good, because these rifles aren’t destroyed entirely but shipped to a more gun friendly continent.

  38. dellcar on February 28, 2023 at 3:23 am

Bet MAC is all pissy he can’t buy up all of the kits and resell them….

  39. NationalRaifuAssociation on February 28, 2023 at 3:24 am

On scaplers: yeah, i know that pain. Been looking for a Flux Raider. Flux says "we dont sell to people who resell them" meanwhile gunbroker is full of them for double the factory price.

  40. epia125 on February 28, 2023 at 3:25 am

I wish they would have left the barrel.

I wish I never sold my SA kit…

  41. Matthew S on February 28, 2023 at 3:25 am

And there’s me 🤔this was a how to video 🎉on your new f.a.l…. I want one for Christmas 😢

  42. Jeremy Shelton on February 28, 2023 at 3:27 am

    It FAL apart.

  43. Paul on February 28, 2023 at 3:27 am

Just put my order in! I didn’t think I’d actually get a code – can’t wait to see it!

  44. Matthew Pahl on February 28, 2023 at 3:27 am

It looks like a Type 3 kit. I think you said Type 1 receiver was needed.

  45. Megadellicantera on February 28, 2023 at 3:27 am

    Just got mine today.
Can not wait to get it together.

  46. First Cynic on February 28, 2023 at 3:28 am

7:50. Has anything been put together in tye way of an upper/ barrel/etc package?

Looking at DSA"s web site, I see there are 5 different locking shoulders available. Is that something the gunsmith will need to determine, or do they vary based on the ammo intended to be used? If the latter, which is for 7.62 NATO?

  47. Herbie Van Beveren on February 28, 2023 at 3:28 am

The raffles is something we really like in Belgium. There is a monk brewery that makes one of the best beers in the world (Westvleteren Abt 12; look it up if you are interested in beer) and they sell their six-packs also per raffle and only one per person. No buying in mass and selling it more expensive later. Everybody equal. Beer and FALs ; so typical Belgium.

  48. fydofire on February 28, 2023 at 3:28 am

Looks like it just…FAL apart does it not ?

  49. justanothergunnerd on February 28, 2023 at 3:29 am

Very cool – just entered the raffle.

  50. PixyTheGunner on February 28, 2023 at 3:30 am

I think they are testing the Market, that’s why they released them. New Production FN FALs soon?
