A good survival knife should be able to stand up to punishing situations and laugh in their face, while still being easy enough to carry without fatigue. If you’d rather carry a folder, we even have a few options that could be pressed into “survival” duty without breaking a sweat. You can browse our selection below and check out David’s criteria for judging a good survival knife.

If it had to be only one, yes, my BK-7 w/factory G10 replacement scales* as well as the little uncoated stainless Remora companion knife in its pocket on the factory sheath and a fine small stone in the other.
*Becker "Grivory" scales are dangerous garbage and only place-holders for necessary Micarta or G10 replacements. My close second knife is an OKC Ranger RD-7 and, somewhat similarly, the factory scales MUST be replaced with The Knife Connection alternatives to make the tool comfortable to use in all applications, trust me.
You lost me when you started touting a hollywood gimmick rambo knife.
It will be nice if you took them in nature and try to survive with each one of these knifes at least for 1 week. And use it in real survival situation where all can go wrong if you want or not. That is test we do when we buy these knifes …and we see in real situations how good or bad they are.. i find that i need in real life situation as best silky saw 240mm, and custom made 48# axe and swiss knife..
As a one-tool-option…..
The best “survival” knife out there (imho) would be the TOPS Tahoma Field Knife.
I sold my S1 pretty quick. The grind was uneven and and it otherwise just didn’t feel good to me. Replaced it with the Ontario Blackbird, and enjoy it more.
How is Morakniv no where on this list?
And why are the knives so gosh darn big?
I use a hand forged Damascus steel scout knife. At about 5”
Survival Knife? I’m going Ontario M-9 bayonet all day.
Why’d you pick the strong arm over the lmf2??
i love becker bk7
Glock FM81 🙏
Good review! Personally, I prefer two knives. A small wood carving knife plus a 6-7" blade knife. That way you also have a back up if you break or lose one. Any serious wood carving requires a special knife.
Great , very informative
Going with my Lapplander knife/Sami knife if thats all im taking. 9 inch blade with a proper handle. Trust the in indigenous peoples!
How the f is a 3 inch blade a survival knife? You can feather stick but you cant really baton or chop decently. You cant defend yourself well either. Part of survival is defending yourself if you have to. Fyi..in the woods you are NOT alone. A bk7 is a defensive knife. Esee 6 too. Id pair them with a really tough bk2 or esee 5 as back ups that are very durable. Another way is a bk 9 with a bk 10 or 2. I can still feather stick with even a bk 9 but i cant chop or baton with that little thing
No Tops knives? I love my Silent Hero and Surv Tac 7 if I want to go bigger.
I remember the Gerber strong arm prodigy when they came in under $50 or they’reabout I’m interested in the ones that are in the up-and-coming sometimes you can get a great night for not a lot of money Before everybody figures out it’s a great knife
I carry a big ass Bowie, makes people think my Johnson is bigger
I watch a lot of your videos, and your (best) knife selections suck. Your channel is like a restaurant…. the fish is about to spoil, so push that shit out the door.
0:48 what about a butter knife
Where are the sheaths?
I like the looks of the super freak but I always wonder just how tough it is since it doesn’t have a full metal liner. Anyone have experience with it?
Oml finally a video that is not just 90% folding knifes, i mean i understand that they are your favor but come on.
Great show, excellent descriptions, great presence and presentation, no BS, straight to the point, and very useful information. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Fallkniven is made in Sweden 🙂
All those sexy knives are turning me on-ahh!~~ ❤️
At $263, the upgraded version of that Benchmade Freek (not shown) ticks a lot of boxes for me. At exactly three inches, it can be carried almost everywhere, every day, it has upgraded CPM-S90V stainless steel, and at 2.73 ounces it shaves over an ounce and a half off the base model. If it had a flipper I would marry it.
I carry an Esse 5 or a tops brochimo love them sorry for spelling I’m using seri hands are full
In ‘ultimate’ survival situations…as in your screwed…the Schrade hollow handle gives an opportunity to make a spear.
Please make an EDC size survival match up! Esee, DPX, Tops, LT Wright, Bark River, White River; it would be glorious… 👍🏼
Currently use a bk2 love it
Survival can also mean for anything
RCMP work,BCFD,self defense form animals, wilderness survival or in a vehicle crash my opinion in survival
I think your Nordsmiith is the best of the bunch bud. Elegant and practical design. I’d love to get one in a true scandi.
I’m surprised crkt wasn’t a mention in this video
One note of caution on storing fire starters in a handle compartment. Do not store strike anywhere matches in it. Impacting the knife can ignite the matches causing the handle to explode.
too much emphasis is put on batoning. Smaller knives are better for most other tasks
I’m late to the video, but dam, that was a top notch presentation! Headed to the Knife Center Now!
His top choice is unavailable with no future dates to make :/ !! Nordsmith Pilgrim
WINKLER ! Folders and autos break!
You must be one big dude! Those knives looked tiny in your hands!
Anyway, I’m considering the BK-7.
why no comment on the Fällkniven? they claim to be the strongest survival knives on planet earth
maybe i’m crazy, but a “survival knife” should have at minimum a 6” blade. a big knife can do anything a small knife can do, but a small knife can’t do everything a big knife can do.
I understand bigger knives can be uncomfortable, but with a good sheath they’re easy to get used to. do you want to survive or do you want to be comfortable?
I pack a folding and a fixed blade with a Kukri.
4:30 best knife carry 24 hour to get to emergency survival mode LOL
Love the brown handled ESEE 6.
