Buddhist Monks Against Shooting Range – Gardners Guns
Buddhist Monks Against Shooting Range – Gardners Guns
The popular Eskdalemuir 2k shooting range run by Gardners Guns is under threat due to complaints from the Buddhist community and Samye Ling Monastery despite being over 2 miles away from the range!

🤣🤣🤣 also I signed the petition.
Shame the Buddists aren`t doing more for Myanmar!!
Buddhist monks should consider of bringing peace in their own countries. We are not talking about murders. We are talking about a sport. A genuine British sport! A world class sport! Please do behave
Just signed the petition and donated! Couldn’t agree more about the shooting community in the UK and internationally needing to stick together in situations like this.
That’s what being a tolerant society does for you
Just signed. Will share this on Facebook on many forums.
It’s always nice when you trim that messy beard
I think you are making some reasonable points, however saying that the ranges will bring in money to the local economy is incorrect as there are no pubs, shops etc to spend money on. The only people who will benefit financially are the shooting range owners but they are not local. People are objecting from far and wide as they have visited Samye Ling Temple and therefore have a connection to Eskdalemuir and they wish to be able to visit in the future without noise disturbance in and around the monastery. It is true to say the ranges have already been operating, however not without issue. Local people have been affected by noise, they have just not complained about it (many people live nearer to the range than the location of Samye Ling) as they are trying to show tolerance. Extending the days that the range can operate will extend the amount of noise nuisance. I have no problem with your choice of leisure pursuit, but it would be much better somewhere else – somewhere already noisy such as near a road or factory site so that it doesn’t disturb the peace of this community. It would be great if you could update your video to reflect the points that I have made above. Thanks
Done , hi from Indonesia.
North Carolina checking in, signed.
Have been to the range, lovely owner, very safe and well maintained. This is all just anti gun BS (so signed).
I can see why Buddhist monks aren’t the most welcome in a lot of south east asia now. I feel like I’m constantly being told how much they complain about the society they leach off while providing nothing…
What are the concerns of these people before we all dismiss them entirely? A real problem with the shooting "community" in the UK is that it is seen as elitist and wary of outsiders. Do an open day for the locals to show them what is done there and ease their concerns.
Just more virtue signalling and hoplophobia from the usual suspects.
Who cares what a bunch of monks think?
So to the idiot in the video: when were you here?
Unfortunately I fear politics will win in the end. There is more political benefit to supporting those opposing the planning permission than there is to support it. If the purpose of legislation is to protect the public, why are knives and pistols still the most often used weapons in criminal activity?
I just signed it. Good to see that there are gun loving people all over the world Cheers from the USA.
I have lived in the valley for 20 years. In the last two years i have been shot at TWICE. I will fight this to my dying breath
Buddhists need to live and let live.
FYI Samye Ling monastery has established Buddhist centres in South Africa, Zimbabwe and DRC Congo. People from these centres visit Samye Ling each year (it is the ‘mother ship’) and provide local tourist income. They are not ‘nuts’ but followers of their own faith coming to attend courses and receive instruction.
I signed, it’s simply ridiculous that people don’t want a range that is infringing upon no one.
Need to put your childish toys away and grow up. Just like dumb gun towting american shooting guns. How pointless. Do something more constructive with your time.
But you’ve got suppressors so I don’t see a problem. We had similar issues with the local tip
The monks aren’t necessarily Tibetan. Many are British. This isn’t East vs. West, or some external threat to British nationalism. It’s an internal affair (blown up internationally on both sides, it seems: the local council should try to ignore all that). So all the rather racist comments about Buddhist monks involving themselves in British affairs are really not relevant.
Wow £500,000 coming to a small rural village? Christmas has come early. Thanks awfully gun geeks 😀
So you object to foreign visitors to the valley registering their objections, but want random gun nuts from all round the world to sign your petition?
Hypocrites
Can’t believe this is actually happening…
I hope people realise that this is a problem of planning application. There are hundreds of such conflicts everywhere in England irrespective of hobbies, faith, political leaning or ethnicity. I am afraid the matter of many comments to this video is not shedding a good light on shooting sports.
The shooting range must go, cant have disturbing people around the area with noise.
Planning Permission is not a democracy and petitions, regardless of numbers, either for or against are next to pointless. Whether the range fits the relevant local planning policies is all that really matters. Still no harm in presenting a ‘counter-narrative’ against their petition anyway, i’ve signed it.
Half a million pounds brought into the valley? That’s a blatant lie.
Do tell, where will this money be spent? In the pub? ( there isnt one)
In the village shop? (there isn’t one) the local restaurant? (there isn’t one)
The people who DO bring money into the valley, who buy homes, live and work here, are Buddhists.
YOU are going to drive them away with your shooting, plus we’ve had a huge increase in aggressively driven (and crashed) 4×4’s in the valley since this has begun.
The only business that benefits is the gun shop that runs the range…and they don’t even live in Scotland!
The community does not want this, it is not some random councillor, and we intend to fight
Very much rubs me up the wrong way when an imported culture demands concessions from its host. Thanks for bringing attention to this 🙂
As someone who is a frequent visitor to the Samye Ling grounds, and has benefitted greatly from both the peaceful environment and the teachings taught there, and also comes from a background of rural life and familiarity with firearms ( air rifles, shotguns and.22 rim fire target shooting) I’d like to give my opinion.
The local community that supports the temple and the actual monastics have to my knowledge at least, a respect for the way of life of the area- even if the shooting of animals on the traditional shoots is something they feel strongly against. That’s their right, same as those who LAWFULLY engage with the activity. They are far from ‘nuts’ who don’t understand the culture that they are in.
What has prompted this conflict of views seems to be a proposal of a great deal of extension of the AMOUNT and the TYPE of shooting on the range. That is what would endanger the current balance of the competing interests and the ability to make full use of the centre.
Shooting for a hobby, as in target shooting, gives people a lot of pleasure and builds qualities of discipline, focus, responsibility, and is a positive thing in my opinion.
The centre gives the chance to recover from the stresses of the ( even crazier lately) world, and promotes good relationships between people of all faiths and none, and the local indigenous community have taken it to their hearts, it’s an asset for many people. In Europe it is the longest established Tibetan Buddhist community and holds a lot of people as it’s supporters, it’s not an insignificant part in many people’s lives.
I really hope there can be a mutually successful outcome here.
Sorry for the lengthy post, l felt it warranted it.
Thanks for an excellent channel and for the work you do.
I gift thee my signature, fellow predator. Shouldst thou require more then thy soul needst be offered in trade.
