Carry Insurance Part 2:

Updated Video Comparing Carry Insurance Companies:

Read Before you watch the video: The purpose of this video is NOT to trash carry insurance. I am personally a member of ACLDN! Im merely trying to bring awareness to people that some instructors will only push a certain brand of insurance based on its monetary benefit to them, not for the fact that it is the best. Students might not realize that the product that is being pushed on them is inferior or complete junk. Due to the position of authority and assumed “expertise” of the instructor, some students might take their word as fact. BUYER BEWARE is the message…One of the most prominent carry insurance companies in Texas is a SHAM and should be avoided like the plague!

All businesses, regardless of the endeavor, receive an incentive in the support of a particular product or service, this is called capitalism. It is the responsibility of the consumer to weigh the cost and benefit of the product or service being offered. I see nothing wrong with this practice. I for one am appreciative of being privy to such services and/or information. I can certainly applaud your decision in not wishing to benefit from a commission, although I consider this a loss on your part, I do not find this practice to be deceitful. At the basic level, every purchase you make is influenced by this same practice. Take your local grocer, family practitioner, and government agencies all are influenced or lead by incentives.

You said that if a CCW Course or Instructor was offering Insurance to run away that they only cared about money. But it is not always the case. I’ve been to 3 CCW Courses ç( different states). The only one to offer insurance was by far the most affordable. Two of them were well over $100. But the one with the insurance was Only $35. That’s the cheapest I have ever seen. The course was taught by a retired sheriff and very good . I did buy the insurance after some thought. The libs have the bad guys being charged and jailed while the criminals walk Free. If there ever was a time it’s now. I have FLP (Firearms Legal Protection). It’s just like carrying a firearm. It’s better to have it and not need it. Than to need it and not have it!

The majority of these businesses that carry this Financial Assistance very clearly disclose that they ARE NOT insurance companies, and they aren’t…. and they’re not claiming to be, so…all these channels NEED to stop referring to them as such. It’s misleading and not accurate at all. The word INSURANCE is thrown around and used interchangeably in a lot of these reviews and the included language, and it shouldn’t be…. just sayin’.

Do you really think people start up concealed carry insurance companies and all the work that goes into it out of the goodness of their heart? If I have a concealed carry course that I offer and I have a good platform that I’ve built through my labor to sell someone else’s product why wouldn’t I require a percentage if I’m going to sell it for them I don’t understand you say you’re for capitalism but it doesn’t sound like it! Every time you buy insurance you’re buying it through an agent who gets a percentage car insurance life insurance health insurance why would this be any different you’re not making any sense man

All insurance is basically a Ponzi scheme, needing more people to sign up and not use it than try to make a "withdrawal"/claim. However, the way our society is, how comfortable are you not having some form of an umbrella if that legality arises?

  17. John's Adventures on September 26, 2022 at 8:51 pm

So this video is ridiculous. You think there is a problem with a carry insurance company trying to gain more customers? Do you not know how insurance in general works? The reason a carry insurance can provide the service they do is specifically BECAUSE they try to gain as many subscribers as possible. If they don’t do that they will cease to exist as they won’t have enough money in the bank to cover those attorney expenses you incur. The fact that they provide a commission to instructors is nothing strange or wrong. It is called business. This video makes absolutely no sense.

  18. Calvin Hobbes on September 26, 2022 at 8:52 pm

I was a big fan of "gun insurance" – with an eye on investing in one until I listened to a real lawyer dig into the policy. I understand that people who protect us need to make sure they themselves are protected, but looking at these policies, it looks like typical deja vu all over again: quick to take, slow to give, if at all. In a life-or-death situation where you need to protect your family with deadly force and again in a court, you don’t need your legal advocate bailing on you because you didn’t read the "fine print". If you’re gonna carry for self-defense, you may be better off putting $10,000 or so in a "do-not-touch" account – or set up a HELOC and leave it alone as a legal retainer after doing your due diligence and putting your selected lawyer on speed-dial.

  20. alienrocketscience shared on September 26, 2022 at 8:54 pm

Be careful of companies who use narrow terms like "self defense liability insurance". What this tells you is that it ONLY covers civil liability and not criminal charges. One such company clearly states in their policy that coverage is terminated if charged with a crime. So in this case, plea dealing is out because you’re have to admit to some sort of crime. Secondly, if charged with a crime, you have to make your way through court without coverage, then, only if you are found innocent you will be covered by the "liability" portion of the coverage (like if somebody sues you). And bad to worse, if you are found guilty or admit to any crime associated with the incident, these companies will go after you to reclaim any monies they put out on your behalf… court fees, legal processing fees, attorney fees, etc.

Remember, "liabilty" is a civil matter having to do with damages, although a crime might be a mitigating factor only. Don’t be fooled by companies that try to make it sound like they will absolve you from any repercussions after using dealy force with your weapon. This is not to say don’t defend yourself, but thinking you have absolute immunity can be a dangerous frame of mind. It can make you go past some "reasonableness" levels set into local civil and criminal laws.

Just so you know, ALL the major self defense coverage companies pay instructors. We also study self defense cases in Texas and especially in this political environment every gun owner should have coverage, like you said in the video, you have coverage too. Students don’t have a clue about carrying or self defense coverage and they depend on us to guide them. I switched who I recommend in my classes twice so far because the coverage changes and I will only recommend what I think is the best available and what my family actually has. Yes, they all pay instructors but we don’t base who we recommend on what they pay us. I dropped one who paid more for one who pays us less, it’s NOT about the money, it’s about wanting our students to be protected with the same protection my family uses and I don’t feel bad about doing that at all….

  22. Fin Jan on September 26, 2022 at 8:57 pm

Don’t be confused. Insurance is about money, not morality. Judge them by the terms of the policy, not their marketing.

CCW safe has defended a murder case and had the customer/client cleared of all charges. The client/customer is a free man and didn’t have to pay a single penny back to CCW safe. That’s who I have. The DA’s office thinks twice about bringing charges against a well financed defense team. Let’s call it what it is. The more money you have to fight, the less likely you are to be charged. That’s not to say go out and commit a murder then cry self-defense. But In the event of a real self-defense shooting. A strong financial backing makes. Huge difference. There’s two justices systems. One for poor people and one for people that have means. Get the insurance.

  25. Clifford schaffer on September 26, 2022 at 8:59 pm

    Basic questions to ask:
    1) Are they using the word "insurance" or leading people to believe that it is "insurance"?
If so, they need an insurance license. Claiming they are a membership organization and it is a free benefit like their newsletter doesn’t cut it.

    2) If they have a license, what state is it?
They probably don’t have any license of any sort. That ought to be a big clue.
If it is only Texas, run away. Texas is the worst for regulation. If it is NY, you are on good ground. But NONE of these things are allowed to be sold in NY. That ought to tell you something right there.

    3) Are they licensed in your state?
If they aren’t, then your only remedy for a denied claim is to write them an angry letter. They can tell you to stick it and you have no recourse.

    4) Did they claim that they will pay your criminal defense or bail you out of jail?
If they did, they are lying. That’s illegal under all insurance law. It is a "moral hazard" Insuring someone’s criminal defense would make people more likely to commit crime. Therefore, it is illegal everywhere.
NOBODY is going to send you a check for thirty grand for a retainer for an attorney when you call them from jail. NOBODY.

    5) Do they claim to offer civil liability coverage?
If so, then they need an insurance license. Where is it?
If so, that’s the same coverage you get on your homeowners or renters insurance. You will pay more for it, with no guaranteed payments on claims, and lots of other restrictions than you would through any major national insurance carrier.
Furthermore, your homeowners or renters would be the "primary" insurance so — even assuming that this was real "insurance", they still would not be obligated to pay anything until your homeowners carrier had paid their maximum policy limit.
Bottom line, chances that this will result in any actual money in your pocket in times of crisis are close to ZERO.

    6) Did they claim that there is no limit on their payouts?
If so, see me about a really great deal on some magic beans right now.
If there is no limit on payouts, the only explanation could be is that there are no payouts.

Call your homeowners or renters agent and ask them about a million dollar general liability umbrella policy. That will get your FAR MORE coverage from a REPUTABLE, LICENSED COMPANY THAT PAYS THEIR CLAIMS.

Wow… Where do I start. You’re looking at this all wrong. YOU are the subject matter expert that your client trusts. You can provide a value added service by pointing out the pros and cons of the players in that space. There’s no denying that carry insurance is beneficial.. but which one is the best? Help your clients figure it out. That bit about calling an attorney ahead of time is DANGEROUS… of course, you can call him… and get ready to pay his retainer upfront… or worse yet… you happen to need him while he’s prepping for the biggest trial of his career. I think you should re-think your position on this… none of us care that you get compensated… in fact, we’re glad about it, especially if you decide to link up with the service you think was the best deal. I think you’re complete upside down on this, you can help your clients and make some extra money too.

Thumbs Down! Sorry, but Carry Insurance is a must. There are plenty of good companies out there. You do not name the one you are talking about and talk about conflict of interest without really going into detail of how its a conflict of interest. Sorry bud, but I think you are giving people the wrong impression about Carry Insurance. Someone is gonna get in trouble and be really sorry they do not have someone covering their back. I have USCCA and they are the best!

  31. Kevin Marshall on September 26, 2022 at 9:05 pm

lots of them wont cover you if you are "charged" with a crime. We all know that doesnt mean guilty. ex. the bodega guy, in NY, who killed his attacker was "charged" for murder. his insurance would not have covered him if he had it. read the fine print!

  32. Kyle Sminki on September 26, 2022 at 9:05 pm

It’s refreshing to hear from someone who doesn’t have a financial incentive from one of those kinds of companies. I’m 21 and am currently waiting on my permit to come in the mail and have been doing the proper due diligence in researching what CCW insurance would be good for me.

The class that I took was through ASDI which was fine. But about half way through the 3hr class, they explained the insurance policy they were affiliated with and it pretty much went exactly how you explained in the video. I’m always skeptical of peoples motives when it comes to anything money and have no problem asking them how or why they are affiliated. So I asked the dude how they are affiliated and he said pretty much that it’s the one that he carries so they asked if they could offer a discount for their classes while also not giving any eye contact whatsoever. I’m not sure if that’s a question he gets often or not but I thought that was the biggest bull shit answer he could’ve given. It was a relatively decent sized class of about 20 people and about 4 filled out the paper for the insurance that they handed out. That surprised me since the discount wasn’t but a few dollars off the original price and the application process for the permit was going to take at least a month or two before it comes in the mail.

Anyways, I appreciate your video. Almost every other one I’ve watched of other peoples is pushing one with their “link in the description”. Always a bummer when they tell you that at the end of the video. Not saying the big ones aren’t the way to go but it just makes me feel like I’ve been lied to in a way and wasted my time.

The reason I came to this video is because I am looking for information. You say, “do your due diligence” and who you use, which is great, but you don’t provide any information, you don’t provide the criteria you used to compare insurance providers, you don’t provide any insight in your decision process, and you don’t provide any references or suggested sources on where people can go to do research on these companies/policies – all of which would be helpful to those trying to do their due diligence. For example, what are some questions you would ask a carrier before buying their policy? That would be very helpful, especially for newbies who realize they need something, but don’t even know the players in the market. You provide a warning — instructors might be pushing insurance for a commission — that’s great, and takes maybe 15 seconds, but I think you missed an opportunity here to help people find a path to better options.

  42. jondrew55 on September 26, 2022 at 9:25 pm

Video is disappointing. While I admire your apparent conflict of interest stance, just because this company or that company provides incentives to sell policies, that in and of itself does not mean those policies are bad or good. When I took my concealed course in FL, it was taught by several local SWAT deputies and they laid it on thick and heavy to buy insurance from whatever company they were backed by. In a lot of ways, I think they really crossed the line being LEOs basically getting in paying civilian’s faces saying "you need to buy this policy".

I have no doubt that if I ever get in a shooting situation there will be legal repercussions. And it could be very expensive. It is not at all clear to me reading the literature the CCW insurance companies give out what is and what is not covered. Can a bad guy sue me? What if I accidentally damage property or injure or kill a bystander in the act of legitimately defending myself? Is this just criminal or criminal and civil coverage? What is my burden of proof to demonstrate I acted legally in a shooting situation? What percentage of insurance claims are not covered? Too many questions and not enough answers from what I’ve been able to research.

  43. Mark & Leona - TruNorth on September 26, 2022 at 9:25 pm

Are you aware that with USCCA if you have a self defense case that goes to court and you lose you are required to pay back every dollar they spent defending you? It states this clearly in the policy. Other self-defense insurance companies don’t do that to you.

  44. Data Is Amazing on September 26, 2022 at 9:26 pm

Based on your logic I can assume you don’t carry auto insurance or home insurance or life insurance or medical insurance since the folks that sell those policies get a kickback.

  47. Bill Birch on September 26, 2022 at 9:30 pm

Just watched another vid that compared the benefits of the top 3 from an instructor that pushes all 3. None of them will touch you if you knew the person or even casually knew them as a one time date so be careful. He said the majority of self defense cases are people that are relatives or acquaintances even single casual date is enough to refuse service/performance. Just be aware they won’t touch you if you know the individual. You are on your own in that situation. Only self defend against people you don’t know is their policy. If it turns out a crime was committed or not 100% clear they can deny service. Maybe civil liability is not as important to some as it is to others and policies greatly differ there. Get what you pay for.

  49. shaverlocal on September 26, 2022 at 9:32 pm

Do you have any idea the personal cost involved in hiring some idiot off the street to represent you after you were forced to defend your life with a gun? It can easily be in the 300-500k mark. People should do their own research in hiring an insurance company. I have been with CCW Safe for many years and find I can get those guys on the phone anytime I have a question or a problem. Anyone who neglects to get professional representation is risking everything they own in this world.
