    What a cool job.

The MG42 in HLL has a 200 round magazine but the model for the magazine is a 50 round drum

5:38 this is a pretty good point, something I see a lot in these WW2 sim games is the hardship of devs to find a way to balance gameplay with historical realism. After all, some nations just had very poor weaponry when stacked up against another- and the only reason they could compete is due to things that you can’t really implement into a game, like more soldiers per-team, or differently-structured and sized squad elements. The same issues prevail in tanks, guns, planes and so on.

A German team facing an American team is going to find difficulty, especially in a close-quarters setting like a forest-map, because every soldier for the U.S. team is going to be getting better standard infantry equipment (M1 Garand Semi-Automatic vs Kar 98 Bolt-Action) and it can lead to problems. Some devs change the settings and spawns of the map to accommodate the sides, like giving Germans and Soviets better defensive positions against the opposing team, who might have better overall gear. Still, there is no way to just mirror-match the teams in a historical setting like this while retaining historical authenticity.

You forgot to mention the pc players that can negate all recoil and just full auto every gun 😂

He’d probably be glad to know the m1 garand in fallout nv has the small sight ring as opposed to the big one most games do

kar98 (at the moment) is great. person was just bad with mouse. of course some disadvantage up close with rate of fire, but you can be quite effective in pretty much any scenario. pushing a field, clearing streets, sniping a top a mountain w/e. (still advise a pistol in a house tho) lol

I wish he would actually shoot the guns and show the different variations in them better. Your not an expert unless you actually operate said firearm, someone can say they know everything about a gun without shooting it is just a lie

2:46 it’s not an mg34 it’s an mg42 the other guy is holding

That’s unfortunate about the M1 Garand. I would have liked to play it in it’s accurate representation. I’ve shot an actual WW2 era M1 quite a few times and it’s an amazing rifle. Very accurate with just it’s iron sights. I also love the sound of the clip ejecting. So satisfying.

About the only comment from experience I can say is having owned a 1942 Springfield M1 Garand, the 30-06 firing noise is brutally, head-turning loud. I understand why they likely reduced the overall volume of weapon noise to enhance player hearing of VOIP commands, etc. Great that JF critiqued HLL and that the Devs are pretty much spot on other than a few oversights.

Love the Royal Armouries, it’s in Leeds where I live. Been about 6 times in my life once every few years, always updating what is on display, highly recommend

2:45 Sorry the one you are zoomed in at is a mg42 not 34.

  18. VerkingKerng on September 20, 2022 at 8:24 pm

That isn’t two MG 34s, the player has one and the other guy has an MG 42.

  20. Simon Cowell on September 20, 2022 at 8:24 pm

2:40 probably because its an MG42, not 34. Only the player we get the perspective from has the MG34

  21. Stub on September 20, 2022 at 8:26 pm

The mosin nagant in this game is very poorly made

  22. Zukinu12 Skinny P on September 20, 2022 at 8:29 pm

You do need to use your own firing discipline when using the STG. Though you can make some good distance shots with it even with trigger tapping

  23. Lew_Dawg on September 20, 2022 at 8:30 pm

2:10 except those *aren’t* two MG-34 gunners. The one on the left is wielding an MG-42.

  24. 3XNER on September 20, 2022 at 8:32 pm

The StG-44 has different firemodes though :p

  25. ComentAndDoment on September 20, 2022 at 8:34 pm

Yeah – bypods are kind of silly. You could craw on a fence then as soon as you fall you could put down the bypod and float in the air.

  26. samuel hale on September 20, 2022 at 8:37 pm

If they want the game to be realistic they need to stop making changes just because people are not happy. In WW2 they did not change the design of a gun for you just because you were not happy with it!

  27. jack adlam on September 20, 2022 at 8:38 pm

The second German machine gun you see is the MG42 distinct fire rate and sound the first German machine gun was the MG34 2 different machine guns mate.

    That was fun!

  30. YedReips on September 20, 2022 at 8:40 pm

Did i just see Jonathan Ferguson miss identify a gun? That is a floating MG42, not an MG34.

  31. Simon Cowell on September 20, 2022 at 8:40 pm

7:54 The M1 Garand had 2 different rear sights, the small circle one, but then they also had the larger one for shots 100+ meters. You could switch between them easily too because they were both attached at once and made a sort of L shape, being able to flip one down and the other up simultaneously.

  32. Simon Cowell on September 20, 2022 at 8:41 pm

14:35 Having select fire was the whole point of the STG-44 and all the prototypes, so yes, it does have select fire.

  33. Gabriel Watson on September 20, 2022 at 8:41 pm

So when is someone going to hire him to critique the guns in their shooter? We want realism!

  34. Channing Taintum on September 20, 2022 at 8:42 pm

5:36 the Kar-98K is given to most level one German classes because in the game on most maps, the German team is usually starting on defense while the American and Russian teams are pushing to gain ground on offense, so the German defenders can usually pick them off from distance unless the attackers work as a team and form a coordinated effort to push the Germans back. While the Kar-98k has phenomenal stopping power from mid to long range, the slow fire rate is team-balanced among the German team’s access to the MG42 on a level one class since the Americans have access to the M1 Garand on most level one classes. It’s an entirely game-balance decision to make the Kar-98k the German’s generic footsoldier’s weapon.

in reality, aiming on a real gun, rifle, takes a lot. more than in computer game. it was good to take the rifle down and rest a little. in real.

2 MG-34 gunners?!?!?!? that second one is obviously an MG-42 the barrel and fire rate give it away. Come on Jonathan I thought you were professional!

  43. ixc cxi on September 20, 2022 at 8:51 pm

I’m surprised how quiet the Dektarjov 3:47 is, in real life…when you shoot it, the noise is deafening and the echo is coming back three times. So…Dektarjov unreal…for me + MG42 rate of fire is too low

  44. Dog House on September 20, 2022 at 8:52 pm

Should do Verdun next – very rare to have a realistic WWI game

  45. Fré-Jan Wills on September 20, 2022 at 8:53 pm

well if they buffed the m1 garand so much too give it a better sight, then the kar98k needs to become semi-automatic.
    ( too balance things out)

  46. Softailrider on September 20, 2022 at 8:53 pm

Sorry I don’t trust an English dude that lives in a country that’s taken away everyone’s guns to try and tell me how our beloved m1 recoils

  47. Esteban on September 20, 2022 at 8:54 pm

The K98 reload when partially done with the ammo is fun, you open it up and use a few fingers to keep the rounds in place and then start adding rounds to the rifle one by one. I wonder if this works in practice, not a part of this video.
