Glock 17 3D Print and Test

Glock 17 3D Print and Test

(Followup with corrected issue)

YouTube player

This is my “Not a Glock” 17 3D print and test shots. The file is from DEFCAD. I’m pretty pleased with the build so far. I did have one issue but it is break-in related and not specific to the 3D print.

It uses an MDX parts kit with a threaded barrel. It also uses a rail kit from Riptide Rails. The parts kit from MDX does not come with rails. The magazines are from ETS.

The one issue I had was the barrel not fully seating in the slide. The sharp edge of the slide appeared to be grabbing the barrel just enough to keep it from seating completely.

The details of the problem are shown in the video and my suggestion as to the fix. After the video I filed the sharp edge a bit with a jewelers file and the pistol started working the way I expect. I’ll come back with a follow up video soon on this.

This video does not violate any YouTube rules.

9:31 You have the grab the frame tight like it owes you money! There should be zero gap between the web of your hand (thumb and pointing/trigger finger) and the frame. New Shooters are scary of slide bite so the grip is too low on the frame and too loose.

i think the first stovepipe was from the heavy glove blocking the slide

I wonder if the pla deforms when hot. Might be more sound if printed on asa or nylon?

Hey man thanks for the tip on the rails. I have been making my own for my 3d printed frames which proves to be pretty difficult without a CNC machine….

This is so cool. I got a 3D printer for Christmas and I already opened it. I’m looking at parts from the places you suggested in the description for rails and barrel. This may be a stupid question but are there any legal issues for having a 3D printed gun? I have my conceal permit and have taken gun safety classes. I just worry about the police.

It’s either you have a bad pin or we need to upgrade your spring because it happened to me

Limp wrist issue the weapon operates on recoil and your wrist not being tense is allowing alot of that rearward motion to move into your arm and not into the slide. Yherefore the slide isnt retracting fully and compressing the spring hard enough to send it fully forward. This is why you had better results with both hands.

I printed out some magazines and followers the spring and +3 baseplate you can find online for cheap

  29. Smith Farm and Outdoors on March 17, 2023 at 3:00 am

It would be awesome if people actually watched the video or at least read the description before asking, in the comments, where I sourced files and parts from. I don’t take shortcuts building this pistol. You should not take shortcuts either.

  32. L Cruz on March 17, 2023 at 3:02 am

Polish the metal parts that have friction

  33. Brendan Tester on March 17, 2023 at 3:02 am

3d printed pistols usually dont blow up… the explosion happens in the slide/barrel which is all metal… usually if they malfunction its just not going to fire ive never heard of a 3d printed pistol exploding

  34. YouTube sucks on March 17, 2023 at 3:04 am

I sold off all of my 7 glocks for the same issue. They had fails to fire, just hard primers that the Glock couldn’t set off. I had no issues with the same ammo and pistols with hammers.
