Glock 19 vs Glock 17

Glock 19 vs Glock 17

Glock 19 vs Glock 17. The two most popular Glock 9mm pistols are definitely the 17 and the 19, but which should you get?

You can read a more in-depth discussion here: https://aliengearholsters.com/blog/glock-17-vs-glock-19/

Both are great working guns. There are few pistols that are the same class of absolute workhorse gun in 9mm, which is why both are heavily preferred in the law enforcement community.

The armed civilian may find themselves wondering if there’s one that may be better than the other. It’s more that you’ll find one Glock 9mm is better for what you and what you want it for than the other.

The Glock 17 is high in the running for the best service pistol you could buy in terms of reliability and value for money. However, at almost 6 inches tall and almost 8 inches long, it’s rather large for a daily concealed carry gun. At 17+1 of onboard capacity, it’s a great choice in fighting pistol or competition gun…but the size of the Glock 17 is such that many find it isn’t the easiest carry pistol to deal with if concealment is a priority.

The Glock 19, however, is a bit more compact and is easily concealed and carried. In fact, it’s one of the most popular concealed carry guns on the market today, despite having been on the market for 30 years. It’s also light, at less than 25 oz unloaded, which makes it very easy to tote. A number of shooters also find the slightly shorter trigger reach of the Glock 19 more to their liking.

People have been calling the Glock 19 the “Goldilocks Gun” for decades. It isn’t too big to easily carry, but it isn’t too small to shoot really well or have reduced carrying capacity. It’s just right. It’s likewise been proven in competition, on the street and in military and police service.

Both pistols are eminently customizable, with aftermarket support in terms of available parts and upgrades being second only to 1911 pistols. There’s almost nothing that you can’t add or upgrade with either gun.

And Glock has a number of factory iterations as well; besides the base models, you can add night sights or the MOS editions which have a milled slide for use with a red dot optic.

Either way, you get a great gun. Of course, a great gun should go in a great holster. To find one for Glock 17 or Glock 19 pistols, head over to:

I’ve heard that 19 is thinner compared to 17 in the dimensions. And if it’s true does it apply to the slide or the grip?

Glock 45 the best of both worlds.

19 IS JUST 1 CM SHORTER AND SMALLER OVERALL SO I DONT SEE WHY PEOPLE SAY 17 IS BETTER BECAUSE IT’S BIGGER LOL IT’S MOSTLY SIZING FOR THE OWNERS BUT BOTH WORK THE SAME

You should have also discussed the Glock 45, which combines the best of both the 17 and 19. The 19, however, is the best seller for a reason: It is the most versatile.

  15. Greg Smith on May 7, 2023 at 4:25 am

the grip matters. Like he said. bigger hands, bigger gun

  16. H Factor64 on May 7, 2023 at 4:26 am

Just tested both today ……and had my mind on the 19 before test.
After test I bought the 17.
Fits my hand so much better and thats the only reason I changed my mind!! The 19 my right hand pinky kept looking for room to grab
17 just like GoldieLocks JUST RIGHT

I held both weapons and I have to say, I loved the size of the 17 but the comfort of the 19 is what got me and I’m buying one in about a month or two for mainly self defense and carry

  24. J M on May 7, 2023 at 4:40 am

I got a holster for my 19x and it fits my 17 the tip of the barrel stics out just a bit is that unsafe?

  25. Dan R on May 7, 2023 at 4:42 am

I am going with Glock 19. I’m fully licensed to carry and I live in an open carry state but my instructor said that doesn’t make it a good idea. So I won’t have the Glock 19 because it’s slightly easier to conceal when I’m out in public.

  26. Renso Jimenez on May 7, 2023 at 4:42 am

Where can I purchase that holster? What is it called?

  27. Habib Khan on May 7, 2023 at 4:43 am

    I use glock 17 and 19 but 17 is superb then 19..

  28. ThompsonM1A1 on May 7, 2023 at 4:44 am

I have better accuracy with a G17 and is my security job gun.

  29. L B on May 7, 2023 at 4:44 am

73 years old woman, and my police department keeps telling me to get a gun. I’m looking at a Glock 19. I haven’t used a gun for over 65 years, and I know how serious it is to be safe and always remember how much responsibility you have while carrying one.
My safety is not what it use to be, and I hate this situation a few young fools in my town are forcing me to get protection.
I’m looking at the Glock 19 9mm instead of a Smith & Wesson…what do you think everyone?
Yes, I’m extremely able body, just a little slow with a cane. Generation: Vietnam War military widow wife…can do anything if my back is up against the wall. Help me guys, I did not think I would be doing this at my age…again after the 60’s. Loretta.

Ty for the video. To the point.

  34. LAgancrew24 on May 7, 2023 at 4:48 am

The glock 45 beats them both tbh

  35. dashcammer on May 7, 2023 at 4:48 am

My hands are too big to comfortably get my full pinky on the G19 grip with a stock magazine, so I bought the G17.

  36. Kalani Pitmon on May 7, 2023 at 4:49 am

Is there any poi change at 10 yards with these 2? Took my 509 off my 17 n put it on my 19 and havent rezeroed just wondering if theres any significant poi change

  37. rob MD on May 7, 2023 at 4:49 am

Where do I get that holster please

  38. DineroDreamss on May 7, 2023 at 4:49 am

    19x gang 🤘

  39. Todd West on May 7, 2023 at 4:52 am

2 other options would be the G45, which so far has been compatiable with all my 19 gear. Then the 19x which hasn’t been as friendly backwards compatable. Both offer the advantage of the G17 lower and the shorter G19 slide. With the G17 Gen 5 out, I might add it to the collection as well. Also considering trying a Shadow Systems DR920. Any feedback on the DR920?
