Left of Black host Dr. Mark Anthony Neal sits down with historian Dr. Barbara Ransby about her new book, “Making All Black Lives Matter: Reimagining Freedom in the Twenty-First Century” (University of California Press, 2018).

Dr. Ransby is a Professor of History, African-American Studies, and Gender and Women’s Studies and the Interim Vice Provost for Planning and Programs at The University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Neal teaches Black Popular Culture in the Department of African and African-American Studies at Duke University.

    The fact that Obama was working within a white establishment frame doesn’t excuse him for the way he worked as a president. Let’s remember the that Cornel West called him a white mascot. Obama is another person of color, that as soon as he found himself at such level of power he choose to be integral part of it and play for the dominant class. His foreign policy matches any other white president and some times even went beyond in his criminal imperialism and neoliberal agenda. I think professor Ransby is being too soft with Obama.
