Review of a few of single shot shotguns.

Paid 36 dollars for my silver and black H&R when I was 14 or so. Just about wore it out and still got 35 dollar trade in on an 870 Wingmaster when I was around 18. They were $180 back then.

  2. Gieszkanne on September 23, 2022 at 8:38 pm

Baikal has as single shot shotgun with internal self cocking hammer, ejector and the release is down by the trigger guard. So you can shot it quite fast if you want.

  3. David Friesen on September 23, 2022 at 8:39 pm

The Stevens 301 has an ejector. To me the ejector is the deciding factor. Why would I buy a shotgun that only extracts.? It’s true that I like wood on a shotgun rather than polymer

How much? I need one give me details

  5. hayden bretton on September 23, 2022 at 8:42 pm

I was surprised you never showed the Greener Martini Action shotgun, I recall we youngsters living in our small hamlets in the UK in the early 1940’s all cut our teeth on the single barrel shotgun.

  6. Gary Bryson on September 23, 2022 at 8:43 pm

I like single shot shotguns. They are very reliable and versatile. You can buy adapters for them that will let a 12 ga. shoot 20 gu. or several other guages and even pistol ammo. I have H&R 12, 20 and 410 . I want to buy a Stevens model 301, like he has in this video.

  7. Deep Negi on September 23, 2022 at 8:43 pm

    36" barrel effective range?

  8. Beardo M.D. on September 23, 2022 at 8:44 pm

This is why Grandpa was such a good shot. Because you only got one.

  9. Jensen William on September 23, 2022 at 8:45 pm

    Thank you Mike!!

  10. Bradford Palmer on September 23, 2022 at 8:45 pm

I have a couple of single shots.

There are several companies that make inserts for single shot shotguns….the inserts, ome being 8" long and rifled. The inserts come in many different calibers, converting it to a 9mm, or .45 long colt, or 38 sp….

And let me tell you, the accuracy is pretty damn good.

One company is Short Lane Arms. I bought a 7 cal set of the 8" set.

Those, my single shot w scope on it, and my .22 Ruger, and i can hit the road during SHTF.

Good stuff, great cheep options.I have one I got at Walmart I think long time ago for like $ stays in my camper in case it’s needed.

  12. Christina Moneyhan on September 23, 2022 at 8:47 pm

What more would a person need. To feed his or her family? Way too much emphasis is put on all this tactical Bull shit that will not happen.

  13. Martin Franke on September 23, 2022 at 8:50 pm

Some of the most prolific single shot shotguns in the US were the Iver Johnson Champion and the many variants of the Stevens 94. Great guns, inexpensive, not "cheap"!

  14. Tim Miller on September 23, 2022 at 8:51 pm

If you are hitting pop can at 100 yard’s don’t change a Damned thing it’s perfect.👍

  15. azzir325 on September 23, 2022 at 8:52 pm

I miss the H&R/NEF single shots, rifle and shotgun. So many choices, so versatile, so economical.

  16. Ed Spencer on September 23, 2022 at 8:52 pm

I recently purchased a Springfield model 94A 410 single shot built by J. Stevens Arms company at my local pawn shop for under $100.00.
Some Hoppes 9, a copper Brillo pad, a few runs down the barrel, some elbow grease. I have myself a respectable little single shot. The action is nice and tight which tells me it wasn’t used a lot.

  17. Marty Adams on September 23, 2022 at 8:53 pm

I have an old Savage single shot .410 I think it’s a model 94a but I know it was made in the late 40’s or early 50s. My great grandfather who passed when I was 5 years old owned it as a squirrel and rabbit gun or more accurately a pot gun. He passed it to my dad and my dad passed it to me. It’s a beautiful old piece and handles incredibly. A true joy to own and shoot.

  18. jacob keats on September 23, 2022 at 8:55 pm

I got the optima one shot 12 gauge nice gun for hunting and very light weight

  19. Jill Davidaon on September 23, 2022 at 9:01 pm

Thank u for sharing. I just bought the Henry 20 brass receiver and butt plate. 3 inch mag straight stock with no checkering. Shot it three times with low brass bird shot and I’m hoping to take off the arm sling next week lol. I ordered a slip on recoil pad.

  20. James Holt on September 23, 2022 at 9:02 pm

    I agree…i keep one handy..
    As most do ..

  21. Colin Penfold on September 23, 2022 at 9:06 pm

I have a CBC651 12g I bought second hand it’s in Beautiful Condition. But my major gripe is the barrel release button is located in front of the trigger guard 😕.

  22. whocares on September 23, 2022 at 9:10 pm

i have an old H&R break action 12 wooden stock its great, was my dads…. i need more time behind it!

  23. Rogue Trooper on September 23, 2022 at 9:10 pm

Excellent Video thank you. I am currently searching for a single shot shotgun. Preferably, no more than 24" bbl. Any suggestions? Thank You

  24. raja chatterjee on September 23, 2022 at 9:11 pm

Obviously Shotguns are one of the best survival tools. But why to put emphasis on single barrel shotgun? Why not side by side or even over under double barrel (with adapters )??

    I am just curious

  25. Ramraj Desai Kupekar on September 23, 2022 at 9:11 pm

Which one is a slug gun, would u suggest a rifled barrel or a plain barrel for slug shooting..✌️

  26. Christian Emmanuel F. Domingo on September 23, 2022 at 9:12 pm

I wanna get a single shot too but i cant find any that has most interchangeable barrels other than rossi wizard and that is discontinued so its harder to buy and collect the barrels, tc compass encore pro hunter will break my bank if i buy a bunch of barrels i hope bunch of gun manufacturers make 1 highquality and cheap and barrel selection goes from .17 all ammo variety to all the way to .50 all ammo variety and then 20mm to all the way 155mm howitzer destructive device license 2a protection guaranteed included for cheap bundle deal!

  27. wutflex on September 23, 2022 at 9:13 pm

Just purchased the stevens 301 12 gauge for my first shotgun, picked it up for 150 bucks brand new.

  28. John Hamaker on September 23, 2022 at 9:13 pm

Of all the firearms I’ve used over 60 yrs a single 12 is the go 2 . #4 buckshot nothing more effective !

  29. Gene Goodwin on September 23, 2022 at 9:13 pm

I used a 12 gauge pump for years but have since sold all my 12 gauges and kept an old H&R single shot break down action 20 gauge. One thing I like about a single shot is the weight, or the lack there of. A single shot is a lot less weight to carry around all day when your out hunting.
When my wife used to take my single shot 20 deer hunting I told her she only needed one shot, just make it count. She came back with a 12 point.
Last week I restored my old 20 gauge single shot and I plan on keeping it until the Lord calls me home. I hope to find an old single shot 410 just to restore and have for fun.
Thanks for the video and for sharing your knowledge.

  30. Ted Brome on September 23, 2022 at 9:13 pm

Was hoping you had a Baikal single in there?? What do you think of the older J-18 model Baikal?

  31. Coppertop V on September 23, 2022 at 9:14 pm

Ive had an H&R in 12 & 20 gauge over the years. Recommend a Sigle Shot Shotgun (12, 20, or 410) for all households in America.

  32. John Knierim on September 23, 2022 at 9:15 pm

model 37 winchesters, i personally use nothing but.

  35. Tony Adams on September 23, 2022 at 9:18 pm

I have 2 H&R handi rifles. One in .30-06 with a heavy barrel and one in .30-30 with an extra barrel in 20 gauge. The .30-06 is a scope only gun and is a tack driver. The .30-30 has a Williams peep sight and a synthetic stock. Both are good guns and I am lucky to own them.
Thank you for your videos. I enjoy them very much.

  37. Lance Stevens on September 23, 2022 at 9:21 pm

Might want to make another video, or add, as more or less a public service announcement…
If your interested in a single shot and run into a great find in a pawn shop or gun show, vintage singles are virtually undistinguishable from recently made singles.
Most people simple look at price.
    Many models were chambered for
2 1/2 inch shells back in the day.
It’s not necessarily "safe" to use
2 3/4 inch modern shells in an older gun even though it can chamber them.
So if the barrel isn’t marked with what the chamber is.
Have it measured by a gunsmith.
I know….I have a few older shotguns with short chambers.
    Just a heads up.

  38. WichitaRick on September 23, 2022 at 9:21 pm

Yes agree,is useful the imfo. or models you show! oddly enough my 1st. guns were not single shots, but a s/a .22 & a mod.12 20 ga.that was my Gma’s I still have both 🙂 have 8 single shots in 410 & 20 ga. have reloaded most of my life, suppose is 9 if include my Contender in45 colt long, have owned it with many barrels in various forms since I was 20 yrs old.2 of them are the $75guns others mentioned,my wife got them for me at w.m. actually one is the h&r other is then N.e.f.model. I stripped them to bare wood & metal, the steel is browning in many layers, the wood is blonde or dirty blonde oil finish ,a trick I learned as a kid restoring antiques! One single shot 20 ga. a stevens has a picture woodburned into the stock a workmate did it similar to tattooing by etching, woodburning with a wire & a dremel tool :)I have made brass butt plates for a few of them & the nef 20 ga. I made a brass butt plate & the spacer behind the forearm that was poly, plastic I made in alum. once then replaced it with a brass one,
Have also made several "new" wood forearms for single shots over the yrs the wood on one I have now is Hickory and was a baseball bat 🙂 made knife handles from it too. I still shoot skeet with a single shot 20 ga. & is joke where we shoot because several of people shooting have VERY high end 12 ga’s & I consistently "win" with my $50 single shot or my Gma’s mod 12 20 ga. I think she paid 20$ for it 🙂 have always toted 20 ga.bird hunting and skeet shooting mainly because of the recoil and it simply weighed less along with carrying those shells walking a few miles quail hunting, I have the 410’s at home for defense and have various reloads in 3 in. high brass, with either 2 .44 cal. h.p.’s or 45 h.p’s stacked 🙂 Rambled a bit but it shows how much more you can do with them and either free or cheaper than some of the crazy prices right now. thank you . Valta kuuluu kansalle-mainos. VMP. Siksi VKK.

Suvakkien persuihin lyömä "kiihkopuolue"-leima siirtyy luonnollisesti ajan saatossa VKK:lle. Minkä me pois persuilta otamme annamme takaisin. Ja älkää te persuja äänestäkö. On siellä massoittain heikkohermoisia, jotka sen tekevät.

Good Post. I have a small collection of .22 target rifles and five black powder long guns ( four Percussion cap and one Flintlock ). Would like to hear your thoughts on the CHARLES DALY 1O1 single shot in .410 ( my first shotgun ). Bought the 101 new at a gun show for $75.00 a few months back. Have you ever built a black powder DIY / KIT LONG GUN? Do you have any that might be a good place to start building ? Thank you !

You think the prices are too cheap. Terrific!!! It’s now 2021 and the poor boy can’t afford one. You put a curse on the poor folks trying to put some protein on the table.

  43. Paul Karkorian on September 23, 2022 at 9:27 pm

The Russian Baikal MP -18 single shot beats them all in simplicity and reliability

  44. phil davis on September 23, 2022 at 9:27 pm

A lot of people don’t like single shot shotgun but I’m telling you they last forever as long as you take care of them

  45. james torres on September 23, 2022 at 9:29 pm

Nice video, my first shotgun was a Ithaca Supersingle in 12 ga model 66, i took my first deer with that shotgun, sold it for a model 37 pump, both fine american shotguns…

  49. Staying Golden on September 23, 2022 at 9:36 pm

If a person can have a one and done a single 20 or 12 would suffice. Don’t get me wrong different rifles for different tasks would be ideal. But if all you can afford is one, a single shot shotgun would serve the purpose in my opinion.

  50. Robin J. on September 23, 2022 at 9:37 pm

When I was just a boy, out in rural America way back in the 50’s and 60’s. The ONLY shotgun I ever saw were single shot OR a few side-by-side doubles. Three quarters of them in 12 gaguge!
I never even used a pump until the mid 70’s.
