I’m on the SATT at Camp Roberts with the Cal State Guard. We are just beginning to tackle this new qualification program so we can teach it to the Guard . Lots of shooting tables and a helluva lot more ammo will be used during zero and qual vs the old system.

  8. Woody Sapper on November 4, 2021 at 8:44 pm

This was implemented by Master Sergeant Spivey at Fort Sill,OK taught to the Drill Sgt.

My son loved qualifying with his M4. He got top shot when he was at Ft. Benning. Very proud of him

Just took this for the first time at Camp Roberts, CA.

A lot of people didn’t hit enough to qualify because we couldn’t even see some of the targets in odd numbered lanes, which were painted white. I scored 19.

On my second try I got an even lane with bright orange targets, and shot 31.

Next, many of the targets failed to detect hits. I shot the 50 meter target twice, in a row, and neither dropped it.

This was my unit’s first time with the new test, and the problems were so bad that the chain of command decided to let everyone retain their scores from the last year.

Thanks for the video. These doctrine changes and new qualification are a needed change. We’ve been doing our best to implement these changes in the Army Reserve.

I’m a crusty old sailor, we qualed with a M-14 prone, kneeling, and off hand. With that big ole 7.62 we needed to make good hits at 700 yrds. Yes we used yards in the 70’s😂🤣

This is never going to be implemented with the Guard and reserve. The Active Component sure does think the guard and reserve have a lot more time on their hands to do things. So 6 months of the year, by this standard all G&R units will be practicing for this rifle qualification. That’s a lost 6 months trying to maintain proficiency in our MOS, Or conducting real life mission sets. Such as maintaining vehicles and aircraft for mechanics and crewmembers. Even for the Infantry, Half of the year will be spent every drill doing gates to fire rifle qualification, Rather than practicing other skills necessary for the infantry to be successful. The Army has needed an overhaul to rifle marksmanship training. But the standards on the G&R are rather ridiculous.

I’m here for my credit during virtual drill!!

  25. Freedom Woods on November 4, 2021 at 9:09 pm

Is this qualification and training only for combat MOSs or is this for all privates during BCT?

  26. General Ripper1964 on November 4, 2021 at 9:11 pm

As a former Battery Commander from almost 20 years ago, this is going to be tough to implement 100%. This is actually much better training that we used to get. Much more realistic.

i had to qualify with an m16 with iron sights lol wish i had a cco

  29. David Shockey on November 4, 2021 at 9:13 pm

Why does this look like a mirrored Mechanized Gunnery with all those tables, let me guess to make it applicable in DTMS.

Reserve Weekends will be fun days for sure.

  31. wesker19902 on November 4, 2021 at 9:16 pm

  33. Luis’s Visuals on November 4, 2021 at 9:19 pm

Do they have iron sights qualification or just scopes ?

  34. DutchedUp on November 4, 2021 at 9:22 pm

Is it only mandatory to do the day qualification, not the CBRN and night qual?

  35. Mikeluv43 on November 4, 2021 at 9:23 pm

Honestly. They expect us to learn this new way to qualify in under 10 minutes. This video has soldiers training at least a week to get accustomed to this way to fire. While reservists only get 1 day to understand the new firing techniques and try to qualify all within a 9am to 5pm(since thats when the range closes). It’s ridiculous . The amount of qualifying ranges that are not properly equipped to handle this new qualifications. At our range their are several lanes where the target won’t go down even if its shoot multiple times, the weapon jamming because it wasn’t properly maintained, the sgts in the command center popping the targets up and down faster than anticpated, no time to breathe and shoot, and a big one SHOOTING WITH IRON SIGHTS. When this video shows a person shooting with an acog sight. So clearly this qualification is sort of biased to companies who have the time and equipment to properly train soldiers to this.

  36. WashRiderO on November 4, 2021 at 9:23 pm

I see my unit absolutely struggling with trying to implement this. Typically we on get a single day of ranges with my reserve unit on a weekend. I dont see them having the time to try and do everything else.

  37. Unknown_potato222 on November 4, 2021 at 9:23 pm

Where’s the Colt M5, and OCP?

  38. Christian Secor on November 4, 2021 at 9:24 pm

What is the yardage that I should expect to be shooting these targets at for qual? It never says

  40. Truckin'Gunner on November 4, 2021 at 9:26 pm

We all know all these tables are not gonna happen. Classroom instruction, drills, practice, etc.? Ain’t no time for that. It will be show up to the range, zero the rifle on the 25m range, and then shoot for score.

  41. T. Schneck on November 4, 2021 at 9:27 pm

I can’t wait to see if I can pass this.

  42. S Shaffer on November 4, 2021 at 9:29 pm

I hated those simulator rooms because I did horrible…. I was not used to that and it was not like being on a real range I always qualified… that simulator stuff was some new Army mess…. I couldn’t get with it.
