Owner Report – Marlin 336C 30-30 rifle

Owner Report – Marlin 336C 30-30 rifle

This is my owner’s report / review of the Marlin 30-30 lever action rifle. I’ll discuss the rifle and provide my opinion based on my ownership experience. The Marlin lever action rifles have a lot of great features that make them suitable for regular deer hunters, young adults, or women. Light recoil, light weight, smaller size plus a history of reliable and durable service!! I would recommend a rifle of this series to any gun owner!! Thanks for watching!

Just got one today. Under $300.00. It’s an older model 336, and does not have the side mounted safety. Can’t wait to shoot it.

    Thanks for your video 👍

When you have the rifle on safety you cannot place the hammer in the firing pin rest, just like if you are loaded with ammo and you have it on safety the hammer will stop at the same position just a wink before the pin if you pull the trigger!!

Good review.Just got one for my son to use this season. I shoot a .30-’06 and he’s not ready for that kind of recoil. Nice overview of the features of this rifle. Nice checkering on yours. Mine is plain.

I had a Marlin 336CS manufactured in 1983. Was a solid rifle, very accurate, reliable and clean firing. Ended up selling it like a moron. Out of regret of selling it, I went out and bought myself a 336W made in 2004. First thing I noticed, was how much the new 336 weighs. It’s at least half a pound more than the older 336’s, and that’s a lot when you’re holding that rifle up for a while.

    I have a 336Y, youth, with 16" barrel, 12" LOP, walnut, the wife is 5’1", carries like a .22 on a walk

Hi @nashi55 , do you know about whether or not the pre remmington models are better?

  12. captianshot14 on May 1, 2023 at 4:15 am

the only thing i would change about the marlin is the box-like cover around the front sight. I think it is ugly, other than that, it looks good

  13. Glock Tard on May 1, 2023 at 4:15 am

Meant to say, under $400.00. With a box of Hornady 150 grain.

  14. nashi55 on May 1, 2023 at 4:16 am

I bought it years ago and prices have changed. They have many versions & calibers – so an online search or a local gun store would give you the most up to date results.

  15. romeoneverdies on May 1, 2023 at 4:16 am

Leverevolution i beleive is the word your looking for .

  16. romeoneverdies on May 1, 2023 at 4:22 am

litle notice before buying : cycle the action sevral times and watch for poor stock fitting and barrel missalignment if your buying new (or even a used one) as recent models produced had issues.

  17. Richard Day on May 1, 2023 at 4:23 am

How much should a used Winchester model 94 70s Lever action 30 30 cost

  18. Ck Productions5 on May 1, 2023 at 4:28 am

I bought the same one that had a scope and sling for 200 Christmas Eve

  19. TheAngeloakers on May 1, 2023 at 4:29 am

really iv never really seen new one with the walnut checkering

  20. James Watts on May 1, 2023 at 4:31 am

    That is not a 336 c. The c has a gold trigger

  21. desaljs on May 1, 2023 at 4:32 am

Nice review! For those of you who purchased a 336 recently (mine is 30-30), there is an issue with the long screw that secures the rear barrel band. This piece fractures easily, usually within the first 50-100 rounds. I noticed this while shooting recently. The web confirmed this was an issue based on numerous postings. My first thought was to secure a replacement part, but with the transition to Ruger ownership, there were NO parts available. I found a solution, using a roll pin. I used a 1/8 by 1 1/4 inch steel split spring tension roll pin in place of the OEM screw. It seems secure so far. A good solution while we wait for Ruger to bring this rifle back into production. I hope Ruger will address some of these issues, as I love this rifle. I am also going to upgrade the trigger with a Ranger Point trigger kit, and change the lever and loading gate with parts from Ranger Point.

  22. IAMGOD712007 on May 1, 2023 at 4:32 am

    I would be a buyer at >$300

  23. Douglas Fulmer on May 1, 2023 at 4:33 am

Stainless steel seems the best option but it is quite spendy, about twice the price.

  24. portlandspitman on May 1, 2023 at 4:34 am

have you used hornadys leverution not sure how its spelled but i was curious on your opinion on the ammo

  25. StephenSF26 on May 1, 2023 at 4:35 am

Side eject is superior, better than the Winchester.

  26. C MJ on May 1, 2023 at 4:35 am

I have an older Marlin 444P guide gun and I love it. It is every bit as good as a Winchester or Henry.

  27. nashi55 on May 1, 2023 at 4:36 am

No I haven’t tried that yet.

  28. Jkssr on May 1, 2023 at 4:36 am

very good vid and enjoying it. Now looking for a Marlin 336c here. Thanks

  29. Kevin Rollman on May 1, 2023 at 4:38 am

The Marlin 1895 Cowboy Action model the 1895 CBA I believe is the best model of all the new Marlin Lever Guns!! It is chambered in 45-70, has an 18.5 inch barrel, holds 6 in the magazine +1 . It is just a beautiful rifle, accurate, and shoots smooth as silk, but don’t expect an absence of recoil!! It has a wonderful recoil and very manageable!! The 1895 in 45-70 is the way to go because there isn’t much out there that can beat the whallop of a 45-70 coming out of this 18.5 “ barrel!! It will be the only rifle you ever need. It is quick moving, with smooth lever action, quick to point!! Fabulous for hunting, home defense, Cowboy Action shooting!!

  30. Leo Barrera on May 1, 2023 at 4:38 am

how much would a 30-30 cowboy style rifle be?

  31. Renegade Wa on May 1, 2023 at 4:38 am

The "lip" on the brass casing denotes that it is a rimmed cartridge.

I have a 336W and it is a great rifle. I put a Leatherwood scope on it and it is a deadly accurate firearm. I love it!!

  32. Wells Hollow on May 1, 2023 at 4:41 am

I had issues with the lever jamming in the wide open position. I had to extract a few rounds when the actions jammed. I looked up on the net and found that the elevator pivot screw needs to be tight, so I did turn it it about a half a turn. The action has been better sinxce. Don’t know if a burr on the elevator was hanging on the next round or it was just loose.

  33. Josh Styles on May 1, 2023 at 4:42 am

i bought a marlin 336y 30-30 last week. i put a weaver base and a reflex sight on it. i love it so far. only one downside… the price i paid for it here in canada was high compared to the american price. i paid 750 for the gun and i got a free box of 170 grain bullets with it

  34. RangersAirsoft on May 1, 2023 at 4:43 am

Great gun, just dropped a doe at over 200 yards with Iron sight here in Wisconsin!

  35. Ragemutt on May 1, 2023 at 4:44 am

I made the mistake of purchasing a Freedom Group Marlin and I had a problem with ammo feeding correctly. As the rounds were being fed into the chamber, the edge of the chamber would shave brass off of the case. The spent casings will not eject properly and the rear sight is canted. It was sent back to Marlin for me and I contacted one of the managers at Marlin and he tried to defend it, saying that there are going to be teething problems when you’re just starting. They fixed the feeding problem, but that’s all they fixed. Very disappointing.

  36. Patrick Thomsen Mantzouridis on May 1, 2023 at 4:46 am

First time here and last. Do a bit of research before start saying BS.

And you don’t know even about your own 336. Τhe model you have is the 336W (W for Walnut).

  37. DW Outdoors on May 1, 2023 at 4:50 am

This is a really nice looking 336C. By the fit and finish, I would have to believe it was one of the last JM Marlins. I pretty sure Remington were not making Marlins that well back in 2009. Very nice review.

  38. Dogecoin1m on May 1, 2023 at 4:50 am

my w did not come with a scope .

  40. JIM ECKENRODE on May 1, 2023 at 4:50 am

I have a question if I may? When the gun is loaded and a round in the chamber with the hammer in lower/home position, if you hit the hammer or drop the gun will that fire the round in the chamber ??

  41. Jack Michael on May 1, 2023 at 4:51 am

Hi Nashi55, as far as I am concern, your lever action is certainly the best looking rifle around. I will try to ask Marlin if they can make for me a complete duplicate of your rifle but should be in the .357 caliber cartridge. I really adore the dark walnut wood color, the checkering and the curved lever. On the barrel length, I might also prefer a shorter one. Anyway, you really have a rifle masterpiece.

  42. John T on May 1, 2023 at 4:51 am

    Beautiful gun

  43. Kevin Rollman on May 1, 2023 at 4:53 am

Marlin’s are the best! And I am talking about the new one’s!! Anyone who questions Remington’s quality has never owned a Remington rifle!!

  44. nashi55 on May 1, 2023 at 4:53 am

Thank you. I’m sure he’ll enjoy his for years!

  45. Steven Douglas on May 1, 2023 at 4:54 am

TO : MR. PARRET, I have the older marlin 336c in 35remington. it is outstanding. its pre-Remington. the wood is well fitted and the action glides fine. other you tubers have downed the newer Remington associated models. as with most guns older production models still offer the better quality. that said, keep in mind i have no experience with the newer production weapons.

Feb 2021 and Biden is the prez. Funny you should mention states where a lever is totally Good to GO! You called it back when you released this video of the 336C. I’ve had over half a dozen Remlins since this video and I’ve been lucky (here in Canada). Currently my most recent purchase of 2021 has been an August 2018 336W Lam Stock, Grey, and Big Loop lever. It’s my poor man’s DARK model LOL. The deer don’t know the difference between the DARK 336 and a 336W LS BL both in .30-30…. All the Best!!. Stay strong, stay safe. God bless all my ‘Murican mates!!
