Savage Impulse – Full Review and Ammo Test

Finally got the chance to try out the Savage Impulse rifle – very impressed at how well it groups with several different types of ammo.

Pooey on yall! Right on Whotee!!

  3. phxamigo on October 20, 2022 at 9:07 pm

Will the hog hunter accept the 10rd AICS magazines?

  4. Matthew Michaels on October 20, 2022 at 9:08 pm

    I had a Savage once
The biggest piece of shite ever made.
It’ll be a snowy day in hell before I by anything made by Savage.

  5. mr220v on October 20, 2022 at 9:08 pm

I guess my ar10 could be straight-pull too if I sealed the gas port. If I got this, it would be in a caliber where there isn’t a good semiauto option in another platform.

  6. Chris Corradini on October 20, 2022 at 9:09 pm

Pair this rifle with the Proof Research Carbon fiber barrel and it would be an unstoppable gun – everything anyone would want!

  7. Andrew Springer on October 20, 2022 at 9:09 pm

Thought I wanted one Now I want two.

  8. Bear Foot Bowhunter on October 20, 2022 at 9:10 pm

Can you test some aggressive Hollow point like the 135gr clover leaf or similar?

  9. William Wood on October 20, 2022 at 9:11 pm

Can you use the 10 round mag on the green hog hunter??

  10. Jacob Forrester on October 20, 2022 at 9:13 pm

I wish the Browning Maral would come to the USA. If you ever watch European boar hunting videos, like ‘Wild Boar Fever’, you’ll see why the straight pull is such a wonder. Those hunters do driven hunts and throw neck breakers while they’re on the run.

  11. Joe Huff on October 20, 2022 at 9:14 pm

Man the more I watch this video the more impressive this savage 308 is. Not many guns shoot this variety of loads this well.

  12. michaelinman8 on October 20, 2022 at 9:15 pm

For the price this thing should be consistently 1/2 MOA all the time.

  13. Dave Jones on October 20, 2022 at 9:15 pm

I just got one today in 243 with a Nightforce FFP scope out to the range tomorrow to see how I can do with it .

  14. Adam Elam on October 20, 2022 at 9:17 pm

I like the reputation for accuracy and the price of a Savage. I don’t care for the tang safety or the Glock style trigger.

  15. 318 Overwatch on October 20, 2022 at 9:17 pm

Heyyyyy wait a minute, where the heck you find all that Remington ammo? Lol, things are getting better, but still short.

  16. Stephen Finley on October 20, 2022 at 9:21 pm

I own 4 savage rifles. .308, 7mm Rem Mag, 300 PRC, 338 Lapua. My savage model 10 FXP .308 (the one that was sold at wal-mart with a bushnell scope) is my go to deer rifle. Killed more deer with it than all other rifles I’ve shot combined.
I have learned from experience that savage rifles are far less picky about bullet weights/loads than most other rifles. Savage is also known for using tighter twist rates in their barrels.. maybe that has something to do with it.
Looks like you have the Impulse Hog Hunter, according to their website it is a 1 in 10" twist (typical twist for Savage .308s) compared to say something from Browning which typically uses 1 in 12" for .308 (I own 1 browning .308 and still have not found a load that it shoots sub 2 moa)
Other fun facts about the Impulse.. The action is aluminum instead of steel, so they use a Barrel Extension behind the barrel nut which also handles the recoil on the bolt (where as bolt actions usually have lugs)

But like I said, I own 4 savages, more than any other brand of rifle. Anytime I go looking for a new setup.. Savage’s website is where I usually start.

  17. Craig Hebert on October 20, 2022 at 9:25 pm

    I wonder if they.offer a lefty version???

  18. Joe Huff on October 20, 2022 at 9:26 pm

I could watch this rifle shoot a million times, seeing a rifle do that with all that different ammo. I’d like to see it cooled down between shot groups. I’m betting every one of those groups would shrink. Man rifles don’t usually do that, that barrel is one in a million.

  19. William Caldwell on October 20, 2022 at 9:27 pm

I have a Savage Predator it will not group anything but 175-178 gr. bullets. I have tried all the same grains that you tested. Just don’t like lighter grain bullets…

  20. DEMO DIC on October 20, 2022 at 9:27 pm

Love my 300win version of it. It’s a blast

  21. Remington on October 20, 2022 at 9:30 pm

Who T who, do you still have that Remington 700 BDL or was it Magpul Enhance.. you had a inexpensive scope on it that was very very impressive when you were shooting jugs (cool aid) 2 to 3 hundred yards, & you had the barrel fluted, just wanted to know if you like the savage better than your 700 Remington? Please let me know, and if anyone out their can tell me how can I put a scope on a AK, I bought it NIB from a friend needed $ since he lost his job. It’s a shame I picked it up new never fired.. they showed a side scope but can’t figure how to put a rail on top?? Anyone give me your ideas.

  22. Magni Smárason on October 20, 2022 at 9:32 pm

It is a bolt action lol.
    It’s a straight-pull bolt action.

  23. David on October 20, 2022 at 9:32 pm

Alright got a lot of research too do it. On finding a rifle, No clue really, Though I know about k98k and the us army rem rifle. But not sure, at least compared to the A.RPlat-. Definitely got 1 if not the right man to learn from for the job. Great Video! Keep it up!
    Many Thank’s,
    David R.

  24. Fotis Papadopoulos on October 20, 2022 at 9:34 pm

    Nice shooting!

  25. Matthew Michaels on October 20, 2022 at 9:36 pm

    Shooting well
But that action is a piece of shit. You’re nearly pulling your shoulder out of its socket cycling that thing.
    Rough and crued firearms

  26. Beasty Baiter2 on October 20, 2022 at 9:40 pm

Video brought to you by remington ammo, which is a brand of ammo I haven’t seen since 2019.

  27. America First on October 20, 2022 at 9:40 pm

Wouldn’t it be something if that lock up fails lmao

  28. Marc Gasber on October 20, 2022 at 9:41 pm

If you really want a strait pull action try to get your hands on an BLASER R8 ultimate – This thing is amazing Like a Korth Revolver but better

  29. JeRK II on October 20, 2022 at 9:42 pm

    Hey W.T.W.
Don’t know if YouTube lets you know when someone comments on 1 of your older video’s hope they do.
Just watched Halfmile’s video on 1 of these in 300 win mag.
I’m wondering if you’ve put a lot of rounds through this rifle yet ?
If you have do you have a bore-o-scope ( doesn’t have to be name brand ) to look at wear on the outside wear ring where ball bearings sit…
    Thanks in advance

  30. Mike Setzke on October 20, 2022 at 9:42 pm

I promised no more rifles, but I’m getting weak.

  31. Lets Go Brandon! on October 20, 2022 at 9:43 pm

Looks like that bolt doesn’t move very smoothly

  32. Kenneth branamen sr on October 20, 2022 at 9:45 pm

Good job ! All the shots are great , keep on truckin .

  33. Remington on October 20, 2022 at 9:45 pm

Been a while since I’ve talk to you. That Remington 700 rifle I believe you had last year’ you think the savage is better? The 168 grain looked good. A friend needed $ sold me his brand new in Box AK, really wanted a AR frame but for 250 can’t beat it. But it’s hard to place a scope on? Any suggestions..

  34. Randy on October 20, 2022 at 9:46 pm

I’d try that last ammo again but run it 1st next time and see what it does

  35. Carl Blacklock on October 20, 2022 at 9:47 pm

Wish you could get 308 custom made reloads . … hole after hole even out to 300 yards

  36. Jeff Adams on October 20, 2022 at 9:48 pm

Deadly From 50yds Out To 500yds…

  37. Yelladog78 on October 20, 2022 at 9:49 pm

Straight pulls are still considered bolt actions just like the swiss WW2 rifles

  38. Gary Postell on October 20, 2022 at 9:49 pm

    Impressive

  39. Duke VonFlankenHeimer on October 20, 2022 at 9:50 pm

Lets see the 180’s out of a cool bore lol, sorry had to say it 8)

  40. Joe Huff on October 20, 2022 at 9:52 pm

I wouldn’t ever let that rifle go, shooting a variety of loads very well. It’s a keeper.most of my life I’d buy a 308 rifle and shoot 150 gr Core Loct and it always seems to work. Now I shoot paper and everything is technical.

  41. Austin Heppermann on October 20, 2022 at 9:52 pm

Really making your way up been watching since like 20k followers

  43. Mike on October 20, 2022 at 9:54 pm

Would have like to seen you cycle a full magazine through it to see how it feeds and runs . How does the safety work on that thing?
    .

  44. juan delgualeyan on October 20, 2022 at 9:55 pm

    Very good!!

  45. Michael Osborne on October 20, 2022 at 9:56 pm

dude you are crazy if you don’t buy that gun, no one can get one. 308 is perfect for deer and hogs and if you adjusted the trigger your groups would be better. like 3 in one hole at 100 yards, oh yeah lose the sled . TN ballistics are the only ones that count

  46. Carbon Spyder on October 20, 2022 at 9:59 pm

After watching Halfmile I thought you did a shoot with one had to go find it and watch again great groups for Savage 👍🏻

  47. Ron Burnett on October 20, 2022 at 9:59 pm

    Interesting design 🤔

  48. Big Trev on October 20, 2022 at 10:00 pm

    🇦🇺😎👍Good honest video

  49. Paul on October 20, 2022 at 10:03 pm

The hot barrel causes distortion in the scope as the heat waves rise . I think lots of the time that’s more of the issue than the heat itself
