Sig 4 Point Safety System

Sig 4 Point Safety System

The Sig 4 Point Safety System –

1-De-cocking lever- Lets you safely lower the hammer with a loaded chamber.

2-Firing pin block. The firing pin cannot move forward if the trigger is not being pressed. This is also called “Drop Safety”

3-Safety Intercept Notch. The reason the hammer is not touching the firing ping when it is down, if the trigger is not pressed the hammer cannot move all the way forward.

4-Trigger bar disconnect. While the slide is cycling, the trigger bar is disconnected from the sear to avoid an out-of-battery discharge.

What it is and how it works! A long needed video explanation of how the internal and passive safeties work on the Sig Sauer P226.

This video is an excerpt from a larger comprehensive review you can find on my channel. Hope this helps to shed some light on some of the engineering that goes into a Sig.

    Great Video!

I do not have a sig, but I was told that the preferred carry position is to have the hammer in the half-cock position to keep the hammer from resting against the pin, but it would seem like the pin block would make that unnecessary.
    Any thoughts on this?

Perhaps someone might answer this Q for me (I know absolutely nothing about handguns!
If an officer drew this gun and an assailant without any gun knowledge took it from him. How likely is it that the assailant would be able use the gun against the officer?

  12. Gunther Arnold on October 19, 2022 at 9:16 pm

CZ75, Beretta 92 and SIG P226 are exemples of pistols where the firing pin safety is disconnected like the regular sear after each shot. Most, if not all, striker fired pistol firing pon safeties, are trigger actuated and after a shot the firing pin will be unlocked until de user releases the trigger. On a SIG, after you fire a shot, the firing pin will return on its locked position. I noted it using the silly "world of guns" game.

Nice job on the detail in his video just purchased this gun today good things to know

Thanks, i knew how the firing pin block worked and the decocker how the hammer doesnt go all the way down but i now understand how the safty lever disconnects the trigger from the hammer.

Give me some good old DA/SA and SAO handguns. Striker fired is like a hybrid. Not fun. Sig has always made excellent firearms.

  17. Alexander V. on October 19, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Would never buy DA/SA from SIG. SAO is the way to go. It actually has a safety.

  18. @Slick on October 19, 2022 at 9:19 pm

Just bought the siq P229, bought it used factory tested it as new. Why isn’t my decoker working ๐Ÿ˜’

Easily one of the very best SIG P22x videos ever Iโ€™ve seen. Clearly and perfectly explained and demonstrated.
SIG should have paid you for your research and video and published on their website.
I saved it to my โ€˜SIGโ€™ folder, as I will no doubt show it to others.

    Good ol’ German engineering.
A smarter man than me designed this pistol.

  25. Joe Black on October 19, 2022 at 9:25 pm

Tried pushing the ejector on my sig m11a1 and it makes no noise with or without one in the pipe. Kinda unfortunate, that’s a cool tip.

  27. Wait For It on October 19, 2022 at 9:28 pm

Wow! That makes the Sig safety system as good as the Beretta. All my concern that has kept me from buying Sig has been answered, thanks very much for all your investigation time involved as well as making the video.

  28. J Ryan on October 19, 2022 at 9:29 pm

    Too complicated

  30. Md Maynard on October 19, 2022 at 9:35 pm

Great video, thank you for explaining so thoroughly. Was very helpful. I just bought a used Sig 220 carry & haven’t had a chance to fire it yet. Was concerned that the hammer wasn’t seated correctly & didn’t realize this is one of the safety features.
So thank you for putting my concerns to rest as well as allowing me to learn about some really neat features.

PHENOMENAL Video. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this. It’s everything i was looking for and more. Wow. I bet most people will own this gun and never know all of this.

  43. Pepper wood on October 19, 2022 at 9:54 pm

That’s great they have so many safeties but it would be great if they had a safety switch to make it impossible to pull the trigger with a round in the chamber.

  44. Risteard West on October 19, 2022 at 9:55 pm

P excellent video on the Sig p 229 and other guns all about the safety firing pin just remember these guns have a thing to let the hammer go down but without hitting the fireman pin the only problem is if you press the trigger by accident the gun will go off so be careful lot of people don’t slide it back until they’re ready to shoot it but you don’t know what the situation is you’re not at a target range if you need the gun to save your life ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‘
