Smith & Wesson BODYGUARD 38 – concealed carry revolver

The Smith and Wesson Bodyguard .38 Special +P is a small 5 shot revolver designed for concealed carry. It’s been around a while but this is my first time shooting one.

I love mine. Got one exactly like this with the Crimson Trace and black grips back when they came out. Very underrated; the Ruger LCR series overshadowed it and is also great. Mine shoots to point of aim and has a great trigger. It’s my favorite pocket rocket. When it comes to itty bitty guns, I will always choose a revolver over an auto, and this gun fills that role perfectly.

I love this pistol my dad bought it for me with the lazer and put some very nice grips on it look nice

My 1st Conceal carry fire is this .38 Spl
I swapped out the factory grip for a Hogue grip which was an easy install for someone with no experience in dissembling weapons. ( you will need a clamp though and a few basic hand tools)
I carry IWB and I forget this little powerhouse is there sometimes. I recomment Safariland speedloaders. ( I dont actually have the part # on or near me to note but thete are a few videos that show the speedloader compatible with the bodyguard .38) get some dud rounds and practice your reloads with the speedloader. I have managed to get my reloads at around 4-7 seconds. I have yet to break in a few rounds but I can’t wait to make time to practice a few left hand right hand practice shots and firing from the draw position. Sexy little gun too.

I don’t normally, well at all, have safetys on my carry weapons. However I’m looking into an internal hammer revolver to keep secured and extremely close to me while in bed just in case I can’t make it to the safe. But I want it to have a safety, personally anyway. Just would feel better keeping something that close to somewhere I’m at constantly with a safety

Where can I buy the laser for this gun?

  6. Just1American1966 on April 28, 2023 at 4:01 am

A .38 revolver that still takes 357 (size batteries, at least.)

  7. Albert Tran on April 28, 2023 at 4:02 am

Not even sure how you’re shooting so well with that standard grip. This gun felt like it was slamming into my hand. Just replaced it with a wide Hogue G10 grip

  8. AquaticLives on April 28, 2023 at 4:04 am

Its the 5rnds that bother me, in cali we’re already limited to 10rnds and that doesnt feel enough when some criminals have 15 and 30rnd drums in theirs

Thank you for this excellent video!

I have to tell you, here lately I’ve really been getting into these J frame snubbies,I can’t wait to get my 638 back from the factory. This will be the 1st time I’ve had to deal with their CS for repairs. If they are as good as Ruger,I’ll be very happy.

  15. Bryce McNeely on April 28, 2023 at 4:13 am

This man is fantastic with a double action… 40yds…..wow

  16. Will Barrett on April 28, 2023 at 4:15 am

I like lasers from a deterrent point of view and you gotta rember if you are shooting at some one your heart is found a thousand miles an hour a laser will help you get on sight especially at night of indoors . People with bad eyesight also benefit.

  17. Kent Vene. on April 28, 2023 at 4:15 am

I think it’s a great one it’s a great reliable kind of weapon and it’s perfect for self-defense it’s something that you can definitely rely on. The only thing about it that I might change is that the crimson Trace be replaced with a white light. However I’ve no problem with the laser sight idea I think that it’s more important unless you’re using a rifle to have white light rather than a laser because a lot of home defense tape situations happen at night and in the dark so the only thing that I would say is if you’re going to have a light attached to it a white light would probably be better because it would illuminate your target if you had to defend yourself in a dark place. However that aside which is a relatively unimportant issue considering all things it’s otherwise pretty much perfect. It would be cool if they integrated at least a white light with the laser sight so that you can get more light to see in front of you but otherwise extremely reliable great for men and women to carry and use it’s not hard for anyone to handle or to figure out it’s very durable all in all I say this is a great one great video. And there’s no sense in going out and spending $1,000 on a fancy revolver that is much more fragile and breakable in its components I would still be careful with this one it’s just no brainer you don’t slam your cylinder back in the place you carefully push it back into place using the locking bar in order to preserve the catching notch below the cylinder it’s still very durable though so even if someone is kind of rough with it it’s not likely to have much of an adverse effect I don’t believe that there’s any problems with the dry firing one of these. So it’s one that people could probably practice dry firing. It’s safe because it does require a certain amount of pressure on the trigger that is above the amount of a lot of other handguns both revolvers and auto loaders touchy equals dangerous in my opinion yes touchy does mean that you can have better accuracy at longer distances however you’re still going to get very good accuracy with one of these but you’re not going to have to worry so much about a negligent discharge as you would with a more touchy weapon. I always think Auto loaders are generally better for law enforcement and military because of capacity but when it comes to civilian self-defense and which one is just cooler I think revolvers are cooler and better for your average civilian self-defense scenario. you can trust that when you need it to work it will work but you can also trust that it is unlikely to cycle accidentally as I believe it this one needs very deliberate pressure on the trigger.

Just picked one of these up as my very first gun. I’m excited. See y’all in 10 days hahah

  19. Just1American1966 on April 28, 2023 at 4:16 am

Just picked up one of these yesterday from someone who is moving out of the country. She never got around to shooting it. It seems slick and clean. It would be nice if I could shoot it but still avoid the cylinder drag line. It really shows up on that PVD finish.

    Thanks for sharing.

  20. Ling COD on April 28, 2023 at 4:17 am

I just bought one. It doesn’t have the laser. Does Crimson still make the laser? Also, has anyone changed to he front site.

  21. STEVE P on April 28, 2023 at 4:18 am

I have one. I have the one without the laser. I put a Houge grip on mine.

  22. Genesis Lewis on April 28, 2023 at 4:18 am

Always great informative videos thank you

  25. bmwmsport11 on April 28, 2023 at 4:20 am

Never been a fan of revolvers but decided to get one of these. Decent price and nice compact, slim, light weight. Great for conceal carry. My G43X has been collecting dust since. Mag capacity is low but 5 is better than nothing

  26. Kratos_God_of_50_BMG on April 28, 2023 at 4:22 am

I am eyeballing the non-laser model for a hair over $400, and after scanning reviews look who I found 😁

  27. Marlene Darling on April 28, 2023 at 4:24 am

Concerned with it in my purse with NO SAFETY?

  33. dry509 on April 28, 2023 at 4:31 am

What about shooting with one hand?

  34. Paul Hathcox on April 28, 2023 at 4:32 am

I bought one of these revolvers a couple years ago. The cylinder release was a little awkward at first but it didn’t take long to get used to.

Smith and Wesson worked a bit of magic with this little 38. The grip is rather small but it feels nice in my large hands… how is that even possible? The recoil isn’t bad either for such a light gun.

My wife saw my Bodyguard revolver and instantly liked it so of course now it’s hers lol. Easy come easy go I guess.

  35. SPM636 on April 28, 2023 at 4:34 am

Had one of those w/o the crimson trace on it. Fun to shoot till the trigger jammed up me. 😅

  36. Turf Surf on April 28, 2023 at 4:35 am

I love the design, and went to the store to get it. Then I pulled the trigger next to LCR, I bought LCR instead.

  37. Blandola on April 28, 2023 at 4:35 am

I just picked up a used one at my local Cabela’s for $180! She was carried a lot with tons of finish wear and the laser was DOA. Mechanically it was solid. So I changed out the grip and gave it a refinish with aluminum black. looks way nicer. And it shoots great. Thanks for the video

  38. Joseph Hughart on April 28, 2023 at 4:35 am

Thanks for the video! The information about the clockwise cylinder rotation and how to adjust points of impact were helpful. I’m a left-handed revolver shooter. The ambidextrous cylinder latch is an excellent feature for lefties.

  39. Jason Ashley on April 28, 2023 at 4:36 am

Looks like it still has that cheap j frame alloy finish that runs off easy.

  40. Jonathan on April 28, 2023 at 4:37 am

    Why no hammer

  41. J O R G E on April 28, 2023 at 4:37 am

Good video, question your aim was using the front sight only?

Lasers may partially blind an attacker at the very least.
