The Often Overlooked FN 509

The Often Overlooked FN 509

The FN 509 series of pistols are such awesome handguns that it makes me wonder why we don’t see them in everyone’s hands when we go to the range?

I carry a full size tactical. Wasn’t a fan at first because of the trigger but once I changed that out it shoots like a dream.

I see a lot of hipsters with 509

  5. LastEarBender on August 5, 2022 at 7:58 pm

The 509 used to be extremely inexpensive. I picked mine up new for $350 a couple years ago.

  6. Luh Menace on August 5, 2022 at 7:59 pm

It’s a good gun very balanced but I’d rather choose the xdm elite 9mm over it

  7. Filthy animal on August 5, 2022 at 7:59 pm

    Awesome review!!!

  8. Don Bay on August 5, 2022 at 8:04 pm

To someone who buy half a dozen guns at a time, this might be just “a little bit” pricy, to most (me included), they are way too expensive for what you get. And good luck gettin them fixed if they do break.

  9. Andrew Karpowicz on August 5, 2022 at 8:07 pm

I’ll trade you my midsized for the tactical edition. Love this gun and I would put it up against any glock ever.

  10. Eric D. Kirk on August 5, 2022 at 8:07 pm

I own this. It was also the number two selection behind the Sig for the Army’s new 9mm. I LOVE this. I say, if something can fire ole butter, THIS is it. Fantastic weapon.

Pricey issues with the firing pin the trigger sucks and the price and now the walther PDP is out now so no need to get one

  12. Jeffrey Ayer on August 5, 2022 at 8:10 pm

My 509 is my go to

  13. R Peterson on August 5, 2022 at 8:10 pm

    Great presentation..

  14. Jon Doe on August 5, 2022 at 8:10 pm

I use the 509 compact tactical as one of my conceal carry options. Love that gun. Trigger isn’t the best but it gets the job done regardless.

Great Peice of Artwork Excellent review..Long Live The Republic…

  16. Auto Man Dan on August 5, 2022 at 8:12 pm

The reason why you don’t see The F N 509 very much is because it’s 2 damn expensive for a basic fn509 is almost a thousand dollars.

  17. Jayman133 on August 5, 2022 at 8:12 pm

We don’t see them much often because they don’t work after splashing water on them. 😂
    Just kidding !!
I mean why not just buy a S&W M&P 2.0 9mm right? Unless you just got a lot of extra money to spend on a huge gun collection there really isn’t any reason to think the 509 is as good a pistol as the S&W M&P 2.0…..The 509 is just not as good a gun and in certain ways and with some shops it will cost more than the M&P.
So while I do like the 509 I can’t see any reason to own the 509 when I already have the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 9mm. But let’s say I wanted a pistol chambered in 45ACP, to which FN has a really nice pistol in 45, I’d still rather have a 45 In a 1911 to which I will have some day.
But idk like I said if you got money to burn buy a 509 but to only have a 509 I’d say not a bad thing but the Smith & Wesson M&P is a better pic. The Glock is really good but the grip is just too boxy and I actually like the shape of the S&W triggers more than the Glock style. The Smiths feel better on my finger. At least that’s how I feel..

    Any way 🤷‍♂️

Almost all my semi auto handguns are Glocks or variations of them like a few P80’s and shadow systems. I saw the FN 509 tac at my local gun store a few weeks ago when they were running a sale. I bought one and a few days ago threw on an RMR. I like the gun a lot. The last round bolt hold open only works half the time which sucks but I can live with it. The worst part about the gun is something I never even researched… the mags… they cheapest you will find them for is around $50. That is insane.. if I would have known they were that much before buying the gun I would of passed on it.

  19. Revenant1775 on August 5, 2022 at 8:14 pm

I just bought one, a tactical, jusy because, earlier this year. Friggin love it. I also use it as my EDC, cuz, screw it

  20. John Grytbakk on August 5, 2022 at 8:14 pm

Incredible pistol. ….dream pistol. So cool. Sure want one!

  21. Daniel Lerma on August 5, 2022 at 8:15 pm

Just got my 509 Midsize for $470 out the door can’t wait to shoot it

  22. Defau/t on August 5, 2022 at 8:18 pm

I see one Everytime I go to the shooting range and I own the regular full size. My range has most FN pistols including the five seven. Some guys in the store even Carry the 509 tactical.

  23. Jamie McDonald on August 5, 2022 at 8:19 pm

I own a 509 tactical I bought it on looks alone. It’s an okay gun in most areas but when it comes to accuracy it does nasty things that other polymers won’t do🤪

  24. Texas Gunner 956 on August 5, 2022 at 8:20 pm

Has FN addressed the striker issues

  25. wmtruelock on August 5, 2022 at 8:21 pm

I love the FNX 45 Tactical as well as the 509 standard and the midsize mrd. Great guns, people cry about the trigger but I have no issues with them and have had no problems with close to 5,000 rounds through each of them.

  26. coelho sports & rec on August 5, 2022 at 8:21 pm

This guy is making this video in his bathroom with the shower right behind him. I’m surprised the camera didn’t wander down by accident and show him taking a dukie.

  27. Tehehe on August 5, 2022 at 8:23 pm

People can’t afford the FN’s are probably the main reason. Luckily I own 2.

  28. keyup2626 on August 5, 2022 at 8:25 pm

I absolutely would give a 100% yes to FN Pistols, I own a 509 and a FNS 40 and they both are fantastic shooters. My next pistol will be the FN 45 Tactical FDE.

  29. khalil Abu Kabeer on August 5, 2022 at 8:25 pm

Very good gun, very good quality, beautiful design

  30. Dennis Foutch on August 5, 2022 at 8:26 pm

I have a 509 std. I love it. The mid-size is almost identical in size to the standard but held 2 less rounds. I also have S&W 9mm and comparatively I choose the 509 over the Smith (the S&W is an awsum weapon also but…).

  31. 4KKHABIR on August 5, 2022 at 8:30 pm

    FN 🛌 onn FR

    is the 509 rn

  32. Mike Hagan on August 5, 2022 at 8:31 pm

I Got to shoot an FN 509 at a shooting event. It was outstanding! It was very comfortable to handle and shoot. It seemed like a high Quality product.
I would like to get one soon.

  33. Joey Tomato on August 5, 2022 at 8:31 pm

Because …base model guns just a few years vack were 340 bucks, now they’re over 600… They haven’t doubled in value, just MSRP.

…and apparently they don’t make enough of them to saturate the market. Especially at the inflated new price tag.

  35. tengamangapiu on August 5, 2022 at 8:31 pm

I just got a 509 Tactical and it was great shooting at the range. The elevated sights make it easier for me to shoot accurately. I just wish the striker holds up (there’s been complaints that the FN 509 trigger tends to break, and some people have been replacing the striker with an Apex striker).

  36. Christopher Brooks on August 5, 2022 at 8:35 pm

Great guns. Would like to see a lockable box as standard for their price point.

  37. zszs123 on August 5, 2022 at 8:38 pm

Fn tools excellent 👌 👍 great video thanks

  38. Fear None But ONE on August 5, 2022 at 8:40 pm

I love the 509T. A little disappointed that they don’t take a firmer approach in rectifying the striker issue-like maybe redesign it like Apex did, and offer it free of charge to all end users and get rid of the old design and ship the redesigned one with new 509’s. Also, don’t make a pistol that you can’t dry fire. I recall my PD Academy alone had us dry fire thousands and thousands of times. Dry firing can be a valuable tool for practice in absence of lice Fajr. And the trigger isn’t the best, but it smooths out over time. Other than that, I love everything else about it.

  39. Pangean Bordelo on August 5, 2022 at 8:41 pm

I love my FN 509 tac and can conceal no problem

  40. captainspacehammer on August 5, 2022 at 8:41 pm

Wow. I’m actually on your site now looking for this exact beauty

  41. Jeff Wallace on August 5, 2022 at 8:43 pm

The 509 sits on my nightstand. One of the best triggers Straight Out of the Box. In my opinion they should have gotten the government sidearm contract

  42. Division Agent on August 5, 2022 at 8:44 pm

Lol too big to conceal? I carry appendix with a dual illuminated RMR, a oversized compensator with an Olight PL-Pro Valkyrie.
I only weigh 120 lb and nobody knows I carry this along with 113 rounds.

Four 24-round magazines and one 17- round magazine

Custom Holsters & mag carriers made by North Coast Tactical

What I’m getting at is that it’s definitely doable and concealable with excellent comfort

  43. Nilesh Smith on August 5, 2022 at 8:45 pm

If you want to carry conceal an fn 509 compact tactical get you a holster that cant forward. This is help hid the pistol profile, also load a 12 round mag as opposed to the 15 or 17 or 24.

  44. theworldisnotenough on August 5, 2022 at 8:46 pm

Not as much overlooked as ignored by the company that sells it. They haven’t addressed issues in a substantial way that allow negative perceptions to persist. If Sig can overcome its drop safe issue FN can address issues that aren’t going to kill you.

The strikers. I have an FNS and 3 509s no striker issues. The company will replace then entire pistol if this happens but there hasn’t been a real attempt to address it.

The trigger. Shot the effing pistol. The best striker fired trigger I have is my FNS9 5000+ rounds. I did not even like a new Apex as much as my well broken in FNS trigger.

Doesn’t shoot submerged. Okay Dr. Tactical. But FN should still address it.

  45. Gunny on August 5, 2022 at 8:46 pm

My EDC is the 509T (with Vortex Venom) and love it…. Nice review! 🇺🇸

  46. Freedom66 on August 5, 2022 at 8:47 pm

I purchased the very first ones when they were introduced. I’ve had zero issues with mine. The red dot mounting systems FN provides are the best. I have been trying to get one for months.

  47. Chris Keiper on August 5, 2022 at 8:47 pm

I love my 509 and FNX

really is a great pistol. the 509 mrd compact was ahead of the carry w/ optics curve cause shortly after every manufacturer was offering an optics cut model. to bad they’re pricing and marketing wasn’t competitive though. would be selling like hotcakes!

  50. Caleb Johnson on August 5, 2022 at 8:52 pm

Damn, I wish I could work for FN. The best we have here is Sig Sauer, and they don’t have any machinists in the entire company.
