The S&W Performance Center 1911

The S&W Performance Center 1911

In this video I talk about my new Smith & Wesson Performance Center 1911 and put the first rounds through it. The SW1911 series is such a cool series of guns whether or not you get a Performance Center. Thanks to my friends at Saddle Rock Armory for letting me take their SW1911 E series for this video! In short, S&W makes some great 1911s and I’d recommend them to anyone wanting to get a quality 1911 without forking over $2k+ not to mention these look freakin’ sweet! Thanks for watching! I just got the S&P Performance Center Shield 2.0 EZ and the big brother in a 5" barrel with the factory optic red dot, both in 9mm. Fantastic handguns. I will get one of their 1911’s.

I just received my Smith and Wesson performance center 8 shot snub model 629. I’m a big fan of 1911s and watching your YouTube post on the 1911 performance center I know my next 1911 will be the Smith and Wesson performance center 1911. Your 1911 out of the box is dialed in like my 357 Smith and Wesson performance center. Since you have had your new Smith and Wesson performance center 1911, has it jammed or had any issues?

I have the scandium frame two tone with the bobtail curved back… I have had every gun you could imagine and this is the one gun I would never get rid of.. its just amazing!

Just ordered it 2 days ago

  16. F-GradeArt on August 22, 2022 at 8:29 pm

Pick up a 945 if you can find it. Pre-1911 hybrid between the 4506 and 1911. I’ve got the two-tone, along with an 845 — both are exceptional firearms. Performance Center rules.

  17. JPS on August 22, 2022 at 8:36 pm

  18. GOLF, GUNS and COCKTAILS Channel on August 22, 2022 at 8:37 pm

I rented the Performance Center one … OMG … trigger is fantastic, less recoil, good looking, good shooting, etc. Because of the price I got the E Series and very happy with it.

I’m an electronic technician at smith and Wesson can’t wait for my performance center guns

  24. Mike Stewart on August 22, 2022 at 8:42 pm

Just went and bought an E series in SS without the rail. It’s all your fault. But I love it.

  25. Nathan Boyea on August 22, 2022 at 8:42 pm

Great video. I own the scandium E series, not gonna lie, I bought it because it looked awesome. Luckily, It shoots as good as it looks. I will probably own another variation of the E series at some point.

Man I like that thing. But that external extractor is like broccoli in its teeth. And do they ship those tapered grips with the mag well?

  30. bggypaul on August 22, 2022 at 8:45 pm

Good video! I like the one with the sites personally. I can’t see why on a performance center gun, would only have blacked out sites for that price point. The performance center one should have the same type of sites as the Kimber Rapide. My opinion anyways.. ✌️😎 Be safe out bud

  31. TheRealZJE313 on August 22, 2022 at 8:46 pm

Dude they are not talked about because S&W doesn’t put that many out. They are so focus on the M&P the 1911s and their revolvers Are on the back Berner.

  32. Jason L on August 22, 2022 at 8:47 pm

I like the S&W 1911’s because they don’t go nuts with the roll marks. They just look classy.

I am a 35 year career pistolsmith/revolversmith with a successful full-time business of 30+ years. Yes, I can be a gun snob. I have built many 1911 pistols throughout the years, all with a focus on accuracy. I kept a couple. Just a few short weeks ago, I wanted a 1911 that I could just buy and use. I thought it would be an interesting change. I wanted to get something nice, but not like Ed Brown nice! Just "nice". I was considering a Dan Wesson Pointman 7, as I have shot a few of them and found them to be quite impressive for the money. So, what did I do? I bought a Smith & Wesson Performance Center SW1911 (The one with the blue grips and vented slide). After I did it, I thought "Why did I do this? Smith & Wesson isn’t a 1911 company!" How wrong I was!

I’ll cover just a few things: At first, the trigger was 3.8 lbs and had a slight amount of very smooth creep. After a couple of hundred rounds, it has settled into a smooth and crisp 3.6 lb trigger. I have burned through so many 45 cartridges the last 2 weeks It’s unreal for me at least, because I don’t get very much shooting time. The gun has been consistently reliable with factory 230gr hollowpoints and 2 different 230gr hardball brands. My 200gr cast semi-wadcutter handloads have been reliable as well. Concerning accuracy, this gun is a shocker. The slide to frame fit it very tight, but smooth as glass. The barrel-to-slide fit is incredible. The Briley spherical bushing does help of course and it has been fit correctly. The barrel lugs upper and lower are fit exceptionally well. When I first got the gun, if I let the slide down slowly, it wouldn’t completely close. That’s tight. 50 rounds or so settled THAT in, but everything remains remarkably tight.

So, what does this all provide? For one thing, it’s easy to shoot well. The other is outstanding grouping capability. I own a Ransom Machine Rest (as I must for my business). I set it up and shot several groups at 25 yds, 5 shots each. I used all of the ammunition that I mentioned previously. Every group regardless of ammo was under 2". The cheap hardball was around 1.75" groups. The better hardball and 230gr hollowpoints ran 1.25" – 1.5" (the hollowpoints were the best of the two, but they were more expensive-better quality?) and… Wow. That 200gr semi-wadcutter handload? I had some groups under an inch. FACT. None of those shot a group bigger than 1.2" until the barrel got dirty. UNDER 1" groups with this gun with the right ammo is completely doable. While shooting someone told me "A friend of mine has one of those". His gun has been tested in the Ransom Rest too. I honestly expected larger groups than mine was achieving. I thought I had a "ringer". No. His shoots groups just as good as mine. Really, the only difference is my trigger was too sloppy for my approval. I readjusted the bow. It was an annoyance. His has a properly adjusted bow. I cannot speak for the rest of the line, but this Performance Center Smith & Wesson 1911 model seems to be a "Giant Killer" of great proportions. I have no regrets passing on the Dan. There’s nothing wrong with the Dan, but it’s that… The ‘Smith is so damn good! They need to start getting the attention they deserve.

    He doesn’t blink when shooting.

I have a question for you do you think with cnc machines of today what are you paying $4,000 dollars vs like let say what you have here.back in the old days where everything had to be hand fitting today that’s just no so much of a thing.great video thanks for sharing.

Pardon my ignorance but, why it gets so “dirty” in the front been such an expensive model? I don’t have a problem with the 1911 Springfield Ronin for less money

  46. Luke Yeeterman on August 22, 2022 at 9:02 pm

GOD DAMN that is a pretty gun, looks like something out of a tactical FPS game.

Recommend you both get some training. Start with the beginning and learn how to hold the gun properly.
