i’ve had little success with matchlock ashigaru out on the field, but when defending settlements, they are just amazing, even a single unit struggles to breach a wall, while with bow ashigaru, multiple units tend to get through.

  2. mr. history interested on July 21, 2022 at 7:26 pm

I like matclock Ashigaru and Shimazu Heavy gunners

  3. EDguy12 on July 21, 2022 at 7:28 pm

One can be certain that the Japanese said these words to the Portuguese ‘We want guns not Jesus’

  4. syarif agathon on July 21, 2022 at 7:29 pm

i’m not that impressed w/ matchlock hero
if it has 150 range or it use the same weapon as heavy gunner, maybe it’ll be useful, but for me it’s only better than the mathclock ashigaru

    for ikko ikki matchlock monk
it does have nice stats, but since it doesn’t have fbr it will get out dps by other easily
unless u play in smaller unit size n can put the whole matchlock monk in 1 row
in the biggest unit setting i’ll probably put it behind matchlock samurai

matchlock ashigaru is not that great in field battle but for siege defense it’s amazing

as the best ranged firearms unit i’ll put heavy gunner as no.1
tercos is more versatile since it has great melee stats
but heavy gunner’s piercing and kd ability is more valuable as ranged firearms unit

  8. RC 591 on July 21, 2022 at 7:35 pm

Nothing looks cooler than fully armored Samurai or Knights using firearms. That mix of old and new is visually pleasing.

  9. Nilus Merakas on July 21, 2022 at 7:36 pm

All the time i used fire by rank to quickly kill greats amounts of enemy melee units runinig to kill you in that way in general they lost the biggest amount of troops before they reach you but after it seems thats not truly the case

  10. Marellus on July 21, 2022 at 7:37 pm

Hold up is this talking about FOTS or just shogun 2, because if its FOTS. Then im sorry shimazu heavy gunners op

  11. UltraBoi69 on July 21, 2022 at 7:38 pm

Matchlock Ashigaru is fucking OP if auto-resolving

  12. Captain Nyet on July 21, 2022 at 7:38 pm

Ranked fire is actually really strong, especially against charging enemies as you get more hits in from close range, if you put them in 3 ranks, they will also generally out-damage other gunpowder units.

spreading your matchlocks out to their maximum width gives you very good damage potential per unit, but the fire density will be much lower than ranked fire units in three lines.

spreading your unit will give you the best performance in a 1v1 matchlock gunfight (mainly because thin lines means more of the enemy’s shots will miss), but in most other scenarios ranked fire performs better when used correctly.

  13. The Crimson Fucker on July 21, 2022 at 7:38 pm

"matchlock samurai are better than matchlock ashigaru"
    *raughs in oda matchlock ashigaru*

  14. Land of Hadron on July 21, 2022 at 7:39 pm

Wait aren’t the shimazu in the base game?

  15. Drama King on July 21, 2022 at 7:40 pm

How to make the gun even better. One range mod increased and you’re golden

  16. Marchalis Van on July 21, 2022 at 7:42 pm

Don’t forget Guard mode. And also putting matchlock behind your front matchlock while in guard mode means that any melee ramming into your front row will get heavily punished by point blank matchlock fire 😀 Love that kind of setup, even if you shoot a few of your own guys

  17. Царь Александр on July 21, 2022 at 7:43 pm

Top best towns in Shogun 2

  18. MegaSoviet1961 on July 21, 2022 at 7:44 pm

Imagine firing a matchlock and inhaling that smoke(POV:no cigareetes needed now)

  19. HrHaakon on July 21, 2022 at 7:44 pm

It’s funny that in the Imjin war, Japanese used matchlocks because they OUTRANGED Korean bowmen, and they would just fire and charge anyway: The bowmen didn’t get to shoot more than one round before combat was joined…

  20. Ivan Martinez on July 21, 2022 at 7:45 pm

    best firearms in FOTS?

  21. Victor on July 21, 2022 at 7:45 pm

There should have been ninja gunners. They could be just like the ninja bombers but with guns; remain hidden, vanguard deployment, maybe fire on the move or in all directions. They would probably have low numbers, but you could snipe generals with the right placement. However, they probably would not be good in melee, and would get stomped by a cav charge. I think that would have been really cool. Plus, as far as I know, ninjas used guns historically, so not that unrealistic!

  26. the amorphous flatsch on July 21, 2022 at 7:53 pm

I know you hate shipbattles, but can you make one of these about ships?

  27. bibblebob on July 21, 2022 at 7:56 pm

Matchlock ashigaru are not useless in the campaign – they’re extremely effective at siege defence, and can be a good way to defend castles from full stack armies in the late game

  28. bob bobthebobbobofbobby on July 21, 2022 at 7:56 pm

in terms of ranked fire in shogun 2 base campaign instead of setting and leaving your units on it like you do with kneel fire in fall of the smaurai, use it in mass to blunt an initial charge before your units have fired off any shots then switch it off

  29. Duy Minh on July 21, 2022 at 7:58 pm

That poor soldier at 0:21 lay there die while people ran over him and he still try to survive

  30. Pakorn Wattanavrangkul on July 21, 2022 at 7:59 pm

Otomo = Best gunpower faction due to getting Portugese tericois as well as cannon ships. I think my main army back when I played consisted of over half being Portugese tericois. Be best thing I did with them was win a siege with with the enemy out numbering me 4-1. The battle was going on for so long that the tericois ran out of ammo and had to go into melee.

  31. frostyguy1989 on July 21, 2022 at 8:00 pm

It’s a shame how utter garbage matchlocks are overall in the game considering the period in which it is set. In the late stages of the Sengoku Jidai, they changed how war was fought in Japan forever. Matchlocks were what destroyed the power of the Takeda clan’s dreaded cavalry and exterminated the clan’s most veteran samurai. When Hideyoshi invaded Korea, up to a third of his forces were armed with matchlocks and were a big factor in why Japan was so successful in its conquests initially. I agree with CA’s decision to make them somewhat of a late-game addition, but the execution was terrible.

  37. Geralt of Rivia on July 21, 2022 at 8:07 pm

Same range mod is essential if you wanna mass use guns outside of the Otomo.

  38. Jare 345 on July 21, 2022 at 8:10 pm

Not everyone bad at siege castles like downsides for damaging place isn’t

Fire by rank is more effective when your unit is limited in space and is protected, the constant firing is more efficient some times

  42. Leon Dawson on July 21, 2022 at 8:15 pm

    guns are for the weak

  43. his dudeness83 on July 21, 2022 at 8:15 pm

10 trained blades are no match for 1 trained gun. Especially at a distance.

  50. SMGJohn on July 21, 2022 at 8:22 pm

Playing with DarthMod cavalry will ass rape you because the AI is actually intelligent enough to flank your weakest spots now and the rank by fire works now which is broken in Vanilla, by the time the third rank fires the first rank has reloaded and I have had Tercos firing almost 7 VOLLEYS before the enemy closed in on me with 60 freaking reload stats LOL!
However the heavy gunner seems like a perfect unit because it seems to work much better against cavalry, my tercos have a hard time against cavalry they at most get two volleys off and do pathetic damage because cavalry moves so fast the tercos just do not have time to react. With a heavy gunner getting at least one good volley off would make a world difference although I went pretty heavy on accuracy getting my tercos up on avg 75 accuracy and some of my elite tercos do 90, with DarthMod I like to play into late game.
The one thing I found was that if you want to siege anything in Shogun 2, making a Siege division alongside your siege army is extremely helpful if you can field at least 6 cannons or mangonels with 4 rocket gunners you can basically pepper the enemy down to half its size if you recruited these with the highest possible gold accuracy, then you just let your main reinforcing army wipe out whatever is left.
In my last Otomo playthrough I played exclusive gunpowder and this was the tactic that I developed eventually after taking some heavy losses later on, noticed that siege battles were drawn out and hard to do with only 2 mangonels and 2 rocket gunners, but if you have an entire army of them? Yeah way easier, they are worthless for battles but for sieges they are amazing.
