Top 8 Pistols Police Choose For Protection

Top 8 Pistols Police Choose For Protection

Police across the globe, especially those in the United States, have many choices in terms of firearms. The unfortunate truth is that not everybody is going to come quietly and things can go from 0 to 100 really quickly. So, police officers need something to defend themselves in case things got hairy.

In the United States alone, 62 police officers passed away from gunfire while on duty in 2021. To make the figure more impactful, about 1 officer goes down every 6 days on average. Over 60,000 law enforcement personnel were assaulted while serving in 2020 alone. As a reminder, these numbers are just from the United States.

Evidently, being a police officer is not a risk-free job. They have a duty to protect the innocent and keep the less-than-innocent ones off the streets. For this reason, they need something that they can rely on when they hit the streets.

With this in mind, I have here a list of 8 pistols that have been a constant companion of many police officers.

    I generally appreciate the videos on this channel, but was someone asleep during the fact checking of this one??!! The measurements of the Glock 19 & 17??!!! LOL! The ENTIRE LAPD did not switch over to the S&W M&P! Only NEW recruits were issued the M&P (June 2022 was the last class to be issued the M&P). Only recently (July 2022) have NEW recruits been issued the FN 509.

    Your information is false because most police departments use a better 19 called the Glock 45 and where in the would is FN 509 at cuz S&W MP is not used by the LAPD they use the Fn 509

    The Police are not interested in good, bad guy’s. Wasting money to find a weed dealer’s , and arrest vagrants. How about going after violent predators, in disguise,as HUMAN’s.

    Walther and CZ in Europe but great list. I was surprised by Ruger LC9.

  10. Ronald Howdeshell on August 25, 2022 at 8:11 pm

    Sig P320? Personally, I would prefer the HK.

    Folks tend to forget that LEOs, for the most part, only carry what their employing agency decides they will carry on OR off duty. It is also often assumed that LEOs shoot a lot. Not so. Most only fire their service pistols on the range when their employers or states require them to do so two or three times a year at best. LEOs are not so well paid that they can afford to purchase a lot of practice ammo. LEOs are, for the most part, no better off when it comes to places to practice with their service pistols than the average non-LEO. And then there is the big one. The reason LEOs carry a particular firearm is the same reason GIs carry certain firearms into combat….Low bids. Whatever distributor or manufacturer comes up with the lowest bid is the one that wins the contract.

    1. Cops aren’t really gun savvy. Vast majority hsve never fired a gun before the academy.

    2. Cops get guns approved by the budget officer in the city, chosen to be the cheapest within specifications and not necssarily the best.

    3. Cops don’t train to he gun savvy. They grain to NOT SHOOT. They train to use less than lethal techniques as opposed to high speed low drag shooting.

  28. Peter Rocc on August 25, 2022 at 8:36 pm

    And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: (Hebrews 9:27)
    And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: (Acts 17:30)
    For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. (2 Corinthians 7:10)
    I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)
    For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)

    – S&W M39/M59 series ;
    – HK P7 M8/M13 ;
    – Browning HP 35 ;
    – Springfield XD/HS 2000 ;
    – HK USP…
