Ukraine war: NATO urges allies to boost defence spending

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has called on the alliance’s member states to invest more in defence spending as Russia’s war in Ukraine continues.
“It is obvious that we need to spend more,” Stoltenberg said after a meeting with NATO defence ministers in Brussels.
He added that member states should commit to spending a minimum of two percent of gross domestic product (GDP) on defence. NATO leaders agreed in 2014 to move towards meeting that spending target within a decade.
Jens Stoltenberg made the plea on the second day of a NATO summit in Brussels.

A lot of countries still don’t provide Ukraine with weapons that they wished to give. We have the great example with HIMARS. Thanks to them Ukraine stopped the logistic of Russian army

The Ukrainian military has shown a high level of proficiency in Western weaponry. It is important that Ukraine be provided with all necessary weapons, with which it will regain the occupied territories.

Of course, more money will be required to defeat Russia …
but in the end, the defeat of the Putin regime will save all countries a lot more money and effort.

The future balance of NATO and also the security of the entire West will depend on Ukraine’s victory in this war. Therefore, sending all the weapons requested by Zelensky is imperative. Ukrainian soldiers have already proven to be intelligent and heroic in this war, they are able to learn to use the most modern vehicles, fighters and weapons in a very short time. These state-of-the-art weapons will allow the great turning point in this war.
It is important to remember that this billionaire investment by the West will have its return in the long term, but in a doubled way.
Russia, after losing this war, will have to depose the dictator Putin, because his generals will not allow him to commit the madness of taking this conflict to the nuclear level.
And conspiracy is not lacking in the Kremlin. After this war, Russia will have to compensate the West for the war damage caused not only to Ukraine but to the entire free and democratic world.

Research which countries have been starting wars in other countries… they’re the same ones talking about human rights and democracy needed in other countries.. except their own… Wake up. Its all lies. its imperialism. Praying everyone wakes up.

How long does we see how Russian army leaves Ukraine but our military techniques haven’t come yet? Now is the best time to stop this terror forever. Why we don’t work ?

Russia has succeeded in uniting the the west and for key nations to cut energy and economic ties with them. And now they’re arming. This goes against any plan Moscow possibly could have hatched, and it plays against China too. I imagine the leaders in Beijing are displeased with the consequences of Russias wreckless actions. Long-term, however, China might gain a very loyal vassal who simply don’t have anyone else of significance to trade with. Russian’s might find themselves governed from Moscow in name only.

they termed it "defense" spending, it’s actually "offence" spending. White people are really the master of passive-aggressive.

As a non-westerner, I can’t avoid having the impression that NATO, led by the US, is ganging up to beat up the world, especially China. Imagine France (or any NATO member) militarily interefered into a country, e.g. in Africa, then this country would retaliate, then France would drag the whole NATO block into beating that country…

  20. Andrew Nazar on May 3, 2023 at 3:52 am

Stop saying that giving arms to Ukraine will kill more people, or that Ukraine needs to negotiate. There are only two possible scenarios:
    (1) Ukraine looses and millions of Ukrainians die in concentration camps as it was during the Soviet Union times. Just read the history of Holodomor, and how russians whipped out 4.5 millions of Ukrainians. The only way to stop this is by providing enough arms to Ukraine, so that history doesn’t repeat again.
    (2) Ukraine continues to fight and push russians out. Ukrainians will keep on fighting with or without the Western support. They simply have no choice. But fighting without sufficient arms means tens of thousands of Ukrainian soldiers will die. Again, the only way to minimize Ukrainian losses is by providing enough arms.
In either case, more tanks, long range missiles, and airplanes will save Ukrainian lives and push the invaders out.

  21. Thersa Williamson on May 3, 2023 at 3:55 am

Ukraine must win this war and we must rally around Ukraine and support it as much as possible. Because it is a war of the past against the future, a war of totalitarianism against democracy

  22. jack wody on May 3, 2023 at 3:55 am

This senile old fart Stoltenberg is so disconnected from what 99.999% of the world wants, which is simply to live, work, raise families, and live in peace. So much push for more war when the world needs peace in order to face our collective problems like climate change and simply living better lives.

  23. Kenyatta Anderson on May 3, 2023 at 3:56 am

NATO member countries should seize and use russian assets that russian oligarchs have been smuggling out of Russia for decades.
This will be a good investment in NATO defense.

  24. Leisa Kovacek on May 3, 2023 at 3:58 am

It is very important to increase military support now, because Russia is preparing an offensive, Ukraine needs tanks, aviation and other heavy weapons. Weapons are lives saved

  25. Chris on May 3, 2023 at 4:00 am

We do not need more defense. We need proper governments to worry about their people. Sending money to a costly war is not helping anyone. Climate change and food scarcity are the real threats to democracy.

  26. Anh Conroy on May 3, 2023 at 4:00 am

The Ukrainians are paying a very high price for their independence and for the freedom of all of Europe. We must support them with arms and financially.

Demand the end of all wars now. Demand Peace. Save lives by stopping all the pollution caused by wars..by humans. Madness.
    Julian Assange says:
"If wars can be started by lies.. Peace can be started by truth".
The public are tricked into wars every time. Research.
    Welfare is needed.. not warfare.
This is money making for the corrupt. . by stealing the public’s money.. other countries’ resources, money and murdering the poor in other countries and sacrificing their own citizens too. .
Those demanding wars and weapons aren’t fighting the wars. Those fighting wars don’t want to.. and are risking they’re lives fir others greed. Nothing else. It’s sick. It’s killing the planet too.

  29. Orval Prosacco on May 3, 2023 at 4:03 am

The West and NATO must understand that there is no time to think now. We need to send weapons as quickly as possible, otherwise, this war will drag on for years. No one needs it.

  50. Anderson Langosh on May 3, 2023 at 4:32 am

It’s the right thing to do obviously. This war is a very dangerous situation not only for Ukraine, but frankly for the whole Europe if not the whole world. Yes, Ukraine is interested in ending this war the most, because for them this war is existential. But in reality every single democratic state (especially in Europe) should be invested in aiding Ukraine to stop this war as soon as possible. Kremlin will not stop on capturing Ukraine and countries like Poland knew that they’re next. That’s why it’s in our best interest to increase the military aid now so that we won’t need to pay even more with the lives of our people later.
