Umarex Ruger Impact Maxx .22 Cal Air Rifle 2 year review Gamo Magnum Energy Pellet Accuracy testing

I run my trapline with a Umarex Ruger Impact Maxx .22 caliber air rifle and have done so for 2 years. Lets take a look at a 2 year review of this particular rifle and figure out which pellet is going to give me the best accuracy and the most damage.

Modifications to this air rifle only include the after market scope. We will be modifying this air rifle here in the very near future.
So far this has been a very reliable tool in the woods and on the trap line with a perfect blend between stealth and power.

Game I have dispatched with this Air Rifle:
Racoon
Opposum
Skunk
Fox
Coyote
Crow
Mink
Squirrel

So is this gun the same as the ruger impact max elite? And how much did this gun cost

I love a quality air rifle. I will only use a break-barrel. My prefered ammo is a pointed alloy round.

That’s a nice rifle, and at a good price. I have that same model, bought it about two years ago. I put a Simmons scope on it and it’s been great for squirrel hunting. Lots of punch, that’s for sure. And this rifle is very, very quiet, which is really great when you’re shooting in the backyard for practice. And it shoots so nice and smoothly with the gas piston, man I had no idea the gas piston rifles were so smooth to shoot, I just love that.

Did you say you put down coyotes with that?

I know I’m late to the party but I have a rifle just like yours, I have tried several different type/styles of pellets. I have only found one of the pointed type that hits with any degree of accuracy, those are the RWS Super Point Extras. I found the Ruger Super Points to be unusable as far as accuracy goes. The Crosman Premier hollow points are solid 1in groupings at 50 feet and nearly the same at 120 feet and will pass through a 20 oz. bottle of water at that distance. However they are a very light pellet, 14.5 grain if I remember right. My question to you is do you find hollow points to be more accurate? Do you recommend any particular hollow point in a heavier than 14.5 grain to try in our Ruger break barrels ? Good shooting too by the way. Also what pellet did you use to blow the side out of the ensure bottle on the first round?

  8. Mik Barb on March 17, 2023 at 3:06 am

The Ruger super points are good

Nice video !!! How is the trigger pull after 2 years ? Still heavy ? I just bought one of these guns. It has a heavy trigger pull in the 2nd stage. Hope it lightens up in time.

I could not get my impact max to hold a group with the ruger super points, I could up close but at 25-30 yards I could barely hit a cardboard box with those junk pellets, switched to the crosman hollow points n got a super tight grouping

we use an air rifle for a dispatch weapon ,ours is an older crossman titan in 22 cal. . still have a few flyer pellets in the groups . went with a german pellet from midway shooters supply .meister kreugern something like that . best pellets we have tried for groups that will be able to cover with a dime . going to get a hatsan 25 cal .the 25 cal. pellet guns hold a lot tighter groups . crossman got bought out by benjerman and still make a titan but the older crossman for me is broke in .air rifles especially break barrels need about 500 shots for the barrel to receiver connection to wear in and settle .

Can this hunt small game or coyote and foxes?

  19. Shauna O'Neal on March 17, 2023 at 3:23 am

When you said that a 22LR is a lot more forgiving than a 22 pellet rifle, what did you mean by that? Can you please expound on that for me? Thanks. Sawyer from Western NC.

  20. Woody Norris on March 17, 2023 at 3:23 am

Screws that attach my scope come loose after shooting. I find i can hit a can at 30 yds so I’m pretty happy with it.

  24. idostuff on March 17, 2023 at 3:26 am

It’s hit or miss with these rifle . I missed with mines , glad yours works . Mines shoots low with any pellet I’m going to see if changing the scope does anything if that don’t work it’s going to the garage…

  25. RaiderLee69 Lee on March 17, 2023 at 3:26 am

On the Ruger max can you load more than one pellet at a time? I seen a video and it looked like he was loading 3 pellets at a time without reloading

  26. Bushcraft Savage on March 17, 2023 at 3:27 am

I haven’t shot my break barrel in years, 8000 shots and it destroyed a BSA scope. I prefer the Benjamin Marauder over the Titan, because you don’t have to use the Artillery Hold. Fancy shooting.

Good shit, picked mine up a couple months ago and I love it. Immediately upgraded to a 3-9X32 scope with a mill dotted red/green light up reticle and Weaver see through mounts so I can still use the iron sights (which I think is really bad ass) and a much better adjustable sling. Got it sighted in at just about 30 yards at which, when I’m on my A-game, she’ll hold about a quarter sized group. Doing a trigger job as we speak, couple of good videos on here showing me how. That was my only complaint about the rifle, the trigger was HORRIBLY heavy and making me pull shots pretty bad at times. Also just picked up a cool looking crossbow scope I’m gunna throw on for kicks just because the reticle looked so cool on the box. It’s only 1.5-5 magnification but it’ll still be cool to shoot with and totally adequate for small game hunting at a little closer range. Not a permanent thing just wanted to see how it shoots. Great video and shoot’n!!

Try picking off aspirins off at 40 to 50 yards……with a better scope of course….stock scope needs to be crushed with a 20lb sledge hammer and sent bk to Arkansas Umarex….they suck turtle shells
