Welcome to Firearms of America! Today, I finally have a gun review for you guys and this is Walther PK380 pistol!
As usual, let’s start with Walther PK380 specs:
MODEL: 5050308
CALIBER: .380 ACP
BARREL LENGTH: 3.66″
TRIGGER PULL: 4 LBS
TRIGGER TRAVEL: .04/.2″
CAPACITY: 8 RDS
OVERALL LENGTH: 6.1″
HEIGHT: 5.2″
SAFETY: MANUAL + 1 AUTO
WIDTH: 1.2″
WEIGHT EMPTY: 17 OZ
So far, this is definitely my favorite Walther pistol. It is fairly compact and lightweight, so it is a good option as a pistol for concealed carry.
I love the slide, I love the trigger. For a 380 compact pistol the recoil is actually very much manageable. Don’t get me wrong, it will still surprise you on your first shot, just because psychologically it is hard to expect so much recoil from such a small pistol.
Also, this Walther PK380 safety might not be a favorite for a lot of folks. Besides being a bit scary, it is also located in a weird spot.
Now is this the best 380 pistol? Not at all, but it is good and for around $350-$400, it is even better! Not a cheap handgun, necessarily, but for the quality, definitely a bargain.
So, let me know what do you guys think about this Walther gun? If you have any suggestions, please share! Thanks for watching!

My brother just bought this. I just wanted to do research on it
I found the labeling on the safety was confusing until I read the manual. I had it backwards. Also, it took me a while to figure out how to get the slide to lock open. Mag in, pull back slide, then release mag. This is my first firearm. I haven’t been to a shooting range with it yet, so I can’t say anything more about it. I’ve been educating myself on how to handle it safely. I don’t want to injure anyone because of my ignorance. I think I’m ready now to go to the shooting range. One thing I need to understand is how to maintain/clean the gun after use. I have the supplies and equipment to do it, but will need someone to show me, explain what to do, and what to avoid doing. I know there are videos on YT about it, but I won’t feel as confident as I will having someone there making sure I don’t do something stupid.
My PK380 has an auto slide release when you feed a live magazine into it after the previous mag is released. Very tactical, in my opinion.
I own a 40 shield. An original performance center model, and I was blown away by how nice this walther feels in the hand and just how well built that little sucker is. I got it for my wife with the authentic walther laser sight and she’s thoroughly impressed and so am I. Very interested in walther products in the future, especially for the wife.
I’ve seen a comparison online up against the S&W shield and the guy is full of it. That gun has zero play in it, polished clean from factory, functions amazing, ergonomic, light, damn near identical in size, and much more versatile than my little shield, although that PC shield with the right load has more than enough power for a subcompact, aside from that this 380 is amazing for women shooters where accuracy and confidence count most.
For someone a bit more confident and experienced, and wants a little extra firepower (I live in bear country but it’s not practical to tote a 10mm into work) the 40 shield rocks, but if this is your first gun, or looking for a weapon for the Ole Lady or your daughters this is the one. This pistol absolutely rocks, buy it, you won’t be disappointed
Awesome gun….I paid $325 all in
Put the damn safety on ffs.
Thank you for clarifying the fire/safety, just bought, so sitting here at home I was a confused which position was which.
God Bless
I’ve heard about this and I was told it’s a soft shooter. Hopefully I can try this when I go in a firing range outside of CA.
This is a great gun for women as it has very little recoil. Great review!
It could have been a great gun IF…. lol. As is it’s a ok gun, IF there’s a gun drout ex. if Marxist Democrats are elected and we become like the EU which is their plan, and that’s all that’s out there, maybe ok.
But I digress as far as the gun: Remove the European slide lock(not good for new shooters) replace with a traditional version, Remove the European magazine safety(dumb), Replace the mag release to traditional and relocate safety(too easily actuated accidentally). I don’t mind the hammer block vs decocker because it allows a smoother trigger pull as long as it’s reliable it actually is very innovative and does not interfere with the sear. I don’t know if there is a half cock position on the hammer but that would be quite nice with the hammer block safety. They need to add a little more frame rail to get rid of looseness although locked breach guns usually have a little bit more play at that price point. They could also get rid of the sloppy trigger side play that’s just shameful engineering. Sites look good. For the heft they could have maybe done a staggered or double stack magazine and added capacity to 12-15 rounds. This would have really given the gun a unique nitch and market segment in the 380 arena. It really competes directly with the CCP M2 which is a much superior fire arm and can be had in both single stack 380 and 9mm and is far more concealable without being too small.
I love sa/da guns. The Walther tradition is in my family lineage since my grandfather worked at Spreewerks on the original P38 role out. This gun should be an embarrassment to Walther but does prove that even when Walther makes a crappy somewhat sloppy cheap gun it can still have some value and positive engineering. Walther das gibst nicht!!?? Oder ja?
Great review and great gun!
Great video! It has the European Mag release. The Walther PPQ has options for the same thing. I LOVE the PPQ. I want to own one some day.
The Rainier Arms advanced mag release system allows for something ‘similar’ for glocks. Not exactly the same, but you can release the mag two different ways! 😬
You weren’t born in Murcia were you? You sound like an Austrian trying to sell walthers lol.
Love these guns! I’m going to get grip tape for mine but other than that it’s a perfect carry gun.
If you get the 9 round mag it’s much better if you have bigger hands
Of course "Hooters" is his face place in America! Lol
I have this gun (in cheetah print ) and it is still my favorite. My husband isn’t too big of a fan but I think it’s bc he has bigger hands than me. I’ve had it for about 8 years
If you slam the next mag in place it will automatically slide back and chamber another round. No one mentions this about this Walther, love that feature. Once you lock open, eject the mag, slam the next one, fire.
Love my PK380 ….
Just a tip ! You dont have to press down the mag release to release the slide. Just need to have the mag out and pull back the slide brotha. Only reason I know this is because I own this little walther
Great video Frank! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Excellent review, thank you!
Great review and good safety practice, couldn’t even count how many times you checked the chamber and finger always off the trigger, except when demonstrating the trigger.
Very good detailed review! Good shooting as well!
Finally some gun reviews!
Dude. Small talk, knock it off
i just buy one of this gun i like it
That fire/safe position and the decocker being on the trigger while in safe, makes this gun really really really interesting. This can go wrong really quickly. I’m going to buy one for my collection because it’s really beautiful and it’s interesting.
This one or Beretta 85FS?
