Can I fit 6.8 rounds in 5.56 magazines?

  3. Cameron on August 24, 2022 at 8:04 pm

I like the 6.5 Grendel better for the availability of cheap plinking ammo(30 cents) and seems to have better terminal ballistics, it’s flat as the 5.56 with the energy of the 6.8 and even more energy than the 6.8 at 200+ yrds

My favorite round in an AR-15ish’… platform, is 12 gauge.

6.8 SPC is a fantastic cartridge. The 300 HAMR being the new kid on the block is also outstanding, finally a respectable 308 caliber on the standard AR15 platform

  6. Emory Bragg on August 24, 2022 at 8:12 pm

7.62×39. It hits deer and hogs hard, can get it at 2500 fps with cfe blk and controlled chaos bullets. Also, right now steel case target and hog ammo runs about $350 for 1000 rounds. If you have a good gun and mags, it is very reliable.

  7. Todd Walker on August 24, 2022 at 8:13 pm

I’m a 6.5 Grendel fan boy and thinking about the 6mm ARC ,I really liked the idea of having a 6.8 SPC until I found out magpul only makes mags for lwrc . And 6.8 ammo is way harder to find.

  8. Vinnie the Finger on August 24, 2022 at 8:17 pm

To each his own right. I went with the 6.8 and an LWRCi platform. I like the round and the LWRCi was built from the ground up around mags made by Magpul. 30 rounds of 6.8 goodness ๐Ÿ™‚ I have Rem and Fusion 115 grain and like those both. Haven’t tried Fusion 90 but I’ve heard good things about that round as well. Not a re-loader or a math guy. Just a dumb-ass that had a few bucks to spare.

P.S. i have been shooting for a bit over a decade and even though i have fired and cleaned quite a few firearms and can put together an AR15 since to be honest with a bit of education can be put together like erector sets i still consider my self quite a greeny! so i may ask a dumb question from time to time but its the only way to learn? I was hoping to get your opinion on the barrel i purchased as its the only one i found from Pro2A in the length i wanted. Its a ( Tactical Kinetics 20 inch 6.8 SPC II AR-15 Melonite 1/11 Twist Barrel ) now i have seen a couple of other companies cutting the barrel in 1/10ย  and 1/9 twist and even saw a company cut theres in a 1/12. What are the twist rates on your 6.8 barrels? and is the company that cut the barrel i purchased a good barrel company? I know a few other companies that make good ones like Faxon and Odinworks . One last opinion is what do you think the quality of Aero Precision? I have heard some say they are a mid grade company while others say top notch? I do like AP a lot but i love Stag! I own two of their rifles!!! Well thanks for your time and i look forward to hearing your opinion? You cant hurt my feelings as im not exp. enough to get upset if you tell me some of the stuff i purchased is crap! LOL thanks again

I bought my first ar in 2019. Knew nothing about them. It’s a .224 Valkyrie Lewis Machine & Tool 20". Got the idea to get a 16" 6.8spc, same bolt. I wanted a short barrel and that’s where the spc shines. I get a lot of flak online from 6.5 Grendel users. Sorry, but reliable feeding is a high priority of mine and the Grendel isn’t much, if any advantage with a short barrel. Fatter cartridges are a negative in any auto loader but isn’t as much of an issue with the 6.8. So, 6.8 SPC all day.

My 556 nato needs are fully met with a mini 14.

  13. gogerwi on August 24, 2022 at 8:26 pm

6.8 SPC, Have 4 on AR, platform, 2 on Ruger Mini, and one bolt action. Plenty of punch for anything in So Tex. I think it’s a neat cartridge.

  16. Michael W. Urban Sr. on August 24, 2022 at 8:27 pm

i see this is a bit older video but was very helpful in my decision making. I guess i would call my self an AR collector and shooter. I dont collect old one’s or try to make really expensive ones. I actually just one want in every caliber they make them in?lol Now i have the most ARs in 223/556 but i have 3 of them each, with a different twist hehe 1-7/1-8/1-9/….then i have those you mentioned you dont have. .224Val/.458Socom/6.5Grendel/7.62×39/350Leg/5.7/9mm and most recently a 45ACP CMMG R.A.B. and just love it! Its basically my own home made 45ACP Banshee! LOLI have yet to get my 6.8SPCII rifle together because i was just able to find the barrel i was looking for a 20". I decided not to build a 450BM or 50Beo because im kind of getting redundant with the larger calibers. Since i already have a 350LEg and 458Soco i dont really need the other two calibers…….my wife says! ;>) LOL Ill have one of ,each of the others later! hahaha My bummer here was when you mentioned the ballistics dont really change much per length of barrel? So a 16" to a 20" wont have much change in Vel. and Energy? Also wont the 20" barrel at least push the ballistics out a bit further then 300yrds if you were ever put in that position? My family dose a lot of hunting out in WY and other wide open spaces. So at times we are pushed to make a shot at 400yrds at times even more? Is there anyone doing gel tests out to range with this caliber? I would love to know if it will still kill cleanly out to 400 maybe 450yrds, out of a 20" barrel or even more? I could go longer like my wife has always wanted?LOL great video bud i will be catching up on some of your others!?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. Mike Lee on August 24, 2022 at 8:28 pm

Good video. I hunt with the same Stag Arms, and a Barrett RE7, both in 6.8 SPC. Shoots flat and accurate. I use as ACOG on the Barrett. Throw it in the truck, and it’s ready anytime.

  18. Miguel on August 24, 2022 at 8:29 pm

    6.8 spc

  19. jwgbmp40 on August 24, 2022 at 8:29 pm

I built a 6.8spc around 2012.. love it! An 18" ss target crowned midlength gas tube from psa.. absolutely shoots everywhere I point it.

  20. David Bruce on August 24, 2022 at 8:32 pm

6.8 spc should have been the first caliber for the M16.

  21. jwgbmp40 on August 24, 2022 at 8:32 pm

The 300 blk does not match the 6.8 imo, simply due to case capacity.. both great cartridges as intended for their designs.

  22. Sig 226/2022 on August 24, 2022 at 8:37 pm

I love my 10.5" 6.8spc I got a 15" Midwest Industries SP and put my Suppressor on it and it gave me a Overall length of 18". My next 6.8spc will be a 8.5" for home defense then a 16" for longer range.

yeah I love my 5.56 rifles but that 6.8 is amazing and it drops white tail Instantly with 120gr SST hand loads.

I find I grab my 458 socom more often than the others

  25. Bob Parvin on August 24, 2022 at 8:40 pm

I had one built featuring a shilen 18 in. Barrel here in Texas. I have to say that ar. Does the trick on everything I have shot at and that includes the big axis we have here in West Texas that go over 250 pounds. I use 110 gr. Hornadys and shoot em in the neck just underneath the head. I also have used the 224 valkrie with the 90 gr.federal bonded bullets and have had the same effect. Both rounds use the same magazine.

  26. C T on August 24, 2022 at 8:42 pm

.300 blackout is my favorite. Same everything except barrel and it’s great for shorter barrels and silencers.

  27. USARMYvietnamVET1969 on August 24, 2022 at 8:43 pm

I have a Bushmaster lower and upper in 223/5.56 and two 6.8 SPC uppers, one with a 16 inch barrel with 1: 9.5 inch twist and one with an 18 inch SS barrel with 1: 11 inch twist…I’ve killed 12 Deer with the cartridge mostly one shot kills….the 1: 11 twist doesn’t seem to shoot good groups all that well, any suggestions about bullet weigh with that one…the 1: 9.5 is a tack driver with the older 115 grain Silver State Armory Factory ammo but that’s about gone now….I’ve done a lot of hand loading for the Cartridge using the 18 inch barrel but these days I’d rather shoot factory ammo..

  28. Tom Panek on August 24, 2022 at 8:43 pm

    Just another 300 yard bullet.
    Sold yourself sort.
Try 6mm ARC . 308 performance out of an AR 15!

    Good review

  30. Phil Clodfelter on August 24, 2022 at 8:44 pm

What is the twist rate on your barrels?

  31. pickled_cotton_candy on August 24, 2022 at 8:48 pm

I love my 6.8. I chose it because I hunt fl which is very thick. The 6.8 shoots very well out of a short barrel. That’s the very reason I chose. Easy to maneuver thick brush and tree stands. More accurate than me and enough power to put down anything I draw on.

  32. pickled_cotton_candy on August 24, 2022 at 8:49 pm

I bought my Larue with a Geissele trigger. Built my 6.8 later with a Larue trigger. Larue hands down better trigger. 100 bucks. Give it a try.

  33. Kelten Dun on August 24, 2022 at 8:49 pm

  34. Jeffrey Evans on August 24, 2022 at 8:51 pm

Nice vid, that’s what I plan to do in the future . Already have a AR in 5.56 will buy a upper 6.8

  35. MoparJalopy on August 24, 2022 at 8:52 pm

love my 6.8 also use my for hunting, and boy does it put things down

  36. r c on August 24, 2022 at 8:54 pm

So I was looking at either a 13in or 16in hunting and dmr rifle as both of these out perfoms 556 77g I’m mk262. So I still want to be able to hit 600 yds with good performance but also shoot cqb. Also use this for hogs and white tail. Do I pick 6.8 or 6.5 Grendel, does 6.8 spc2 step up past 6.5 Grendel?

  37. Jake Eames on August 24, 2022 at 8:55 pm

What Handguards do you use? In the market for one and havenโ€™t made my mind up on the carbon fiber! Does it stand the test of time like good ol aluminum? Thanks for your time good sir!

  38. Jae on August 24, 2022 at 8:55 pm

So the 6.8 will fire out of my a.r 15? As is. Or with modifications?

  39. Justin Hickey on August 24, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Where did you get the carbon rail

  40. IG Gonz24 on August 24, 2022 at 8:56 pm

I haven’t shot a 6.8 but am a big fan of intermediate cartridges. Everyone I have heard who shoots 6.8 loves it. Personally I went with 6.5 grendel which is also a great intermediate round. It shoots flat and has enough power to take down most North American game. Either way anyone who wants some extra power without needing a completely new rifle could go with one. Price economy wise, there’s good quality steel ammo for 6.5 grendel. Hopefully once all the covid and political garbage calms down ammo will be affordable again.

  41. Strait Jacket on August 24, 2022 at 8:56 pm

Just bought one cant wait to fire it.One problem magines wont drop i got both 5.56 and 6.8

  42. Guttural Twang on August 24, 2022 at 8:56 pm

How much brass in 68 do you consider enough? Rmr bullets has bulk 115 hpbt seirra in stock.

  43. Chargerus Prime 4014 on August 24, 2022 at 8:56 pm

Here in 2022 and building my first AR as a 6.8 spc rifle because the military IS adopting the cartridge to replace 5.56 NATO round. With the military adopting the cartridge, the round will just become more readily available and cheaper to buy and it’s already decently cheap to reload as it uses 270 bullets.

  44. Stephen Blanck on August 24, 2022 at 8:56 pm

Agreed – way to much focus on BC with AR platforms.
    What matters more to me:
    1.) Terminal performance
    2.) Precision with common rounds
    3.) Sub 18" barrel performance
    4.) Feed/extraction reliability

While the 6.8 spc losses in ballistic performance to the 6mm arc, 224 Val, 6.5 Grendel, it often beats them in many of the above.

  45. Steven Corbo on August 24, 2022 at 8:57 pm

Is it strong enough to shoot deer with

  46. Clinton Layne on August 24, 2022 at 8:59 pm

6.8 SPC will be my next upper purchase. I’m thinking in a 16 or 18 inch barrel. Until then I’m playing with the 6.5 Grendel and the 300 Black out.

  47. Mike Strunk on August 24, 2022 at 8:59 pm

135 Sierra match King is super accurate but you need to cut the neck back

  48. Douglas Jost on August 24, 2022 at 9:00 pm

  49. Philip Sipes on August 24, 2022 at 9:01 pm

Are there any good polymer mags fur the 6.8

  50. Willie Maykit on August 24, 2022 at 9:02 pm

6.5 Grendel. I was sold by this article. The 6.8SPC is a good round though.
