WW2 Guns Still Used in Today's Ukraine war

WW2 Guns Still Used in Today's Ukraine war

For centuries wars are being fought with contemporary weapons and in some instances with future or prototype ones. However some old weapons, older than their current users, are being utilized. The Ukraine war has shown that some very old designs can still be used. Machine guns from a century ago, bolt action rifles older than that, submachine guns designed for WW2, anti-tank rifles as relics of the same conflict are being used, in big numbers or some rare occasions.

Each of these weapons tell us a story and serve as a testament of durability and the overall change and shift in the military doctrine as well as the consequences of the current situation. Not only that but those weapons, very crude and old, are serving on par with the latest designs, making the situation even more peculiar.

Most of those weapons have survived the harsh conditions of the biggest conflict in human history, years of storage and later wars beyond that. Some were served for decades as museum exhibits only to be called once again to fight in today’s wars.

The PPSh-41 might date back to WW2, but tanks to its very high rate of fire and high magazine capacity (with the drum), it is still a serisouly dangerous weapon for close combat room clearing. It is also very simple to use, which makes it an effective weapon for militias with limited training.

Western nations still use the old ma deuce in front line combat in huge numbers. Great video, somewhat redeeming after the ‘cursed weapons’ video debacle, riddled with so many errors I still have nightmares.

I’ll give the Russians credit. Their weapons fill the ‘simple but effective’ role extremely well even today.

You forgot about Mortars and Artillery batteries from WW2 which still are incredibly effective.

I bet it would be really surprising to anyone to be issued the very rifle their great grandparents used to defend their home almost a century ago. It’s insane how time flies.

Ukrainian soldiers use Maxim MG with red dot scope mounted. That was class.

It’s very anachronistic to see a ww2 gun for example ppsh or a mp40 in the hands of a 2022 fighters but this guns were made just 6 or 7 years before the ak-47 so it’s anachronistic to see a modern fighter with an ak-47 too !

I read yesterday that Ukraine forces are doing a military exercises in UK armed with M70 yugo guns produced in Kraguevac Serbia and mostly used during 1991 balkan conflict by Yugo and Croatian forces. Thay are probably shipped by Croatia coz Croatia gave a package of infantry equipment worth 124 million kunas. Also its really unlikely Vučić would support Ukraine against Russia

I find myself wishing that someone would make a modern reproduction of the PTRD-41 in .50 BMG.

It would be the only one in that caliber that I would ever want😉

  33. 0000 on July 21, 2022 at 7:55 pm

As long as its in decent working condition they’re just as if not more effective.
Mosin nagants aren’t just suddenly not deadly

This is what happens when you standardize the cartridge your weapons use
It’s easier to arm an army with old rifles that are chambered in an a ammo type that’s still being made in large quantities than one made to use a outdated and obscure cartridge like .32 French long

Another fun tidbit about the Maxim in Ukraine: There were a few guys that stuck two of those puppies together and mounted a Reflex Sight on. Presumably for more accurate shots, but I wanna believe they did it because they can
